    Epic YASD

New guy here though have read these archives for years. I've played as others since early days on Moria and with 3.2.0 (for some reason the version I'm used to) for probably the last 10 years. I've never won.

I had Paladin lately up to level 50, over 2M turns with pretty solid kit and was trolling around DL99 killing every unique in sight - 40 speed natively and hitting for over 500 etc etc.

I was avoiding Tarrasque. I had just teleported him away and went down a long hall, maybe holding the left key down and from 1057HP I saw -5. Not sure what the issue was, but with with weapon resist he was always hitting me for 500+ and did so twice in succession and i'm dead. Wasn't even trying to clear out a nest or something interesting, or trying to TP off a spell when I know I shouldn't. Just walking..

Aargh.. pretty sure it saved my dump and pretty sure I was set for Morgoth - actually thinking about taking him on today but no matter. Back to the hours of tedium working back up.

Here is my char on the ladder for posterity

    Maybe I should learn 3.5?

Thanks for listening.. Few understand the emptiness of losing a carefully honed character in two or three idle keystrokes.

Sorry for your loss. I have grown the habit of using shift-move for walking long hallways to avoid exacrly these kinds of deaths. While it isnt foolproof either, it comes very close.

Ouch. The Tarrasque is no joke; it has by a significant margin the highest rate of output damage in the game.

The damage caps for the basic 4 elements (fire/cold/electricity/acid) is 1600, so resistance cuts that down to 533. That's still really high. If you layer on temporary resistance in addition to permanent resistance, then you can cut the damage twice, so the cap is 177; that's a lot more survivable. The Tarrasque still has disenchantment breath which can hit pretty hard, but not as hard as single-resisted fire/cold damage.

Acid is practically 800, because it will always try to damage one armor slot, and if that armor is there and doesn't have effective 0AC damage gets halved even if it doesn't actually damage the armor.

Tarrasque breaths very often and it takes forever to cut its HP down enough that it doesn't do max damage with all three breath types. I used to carry potions of resist cold/fire with me for Tarrasque levels when I played warrior. Now immunities are so easy to get that that's no longer any problem.

What version has so many immunities? I found Acid late in the game in 3.2.0, but nothing else across a bit bunch of hunting.

Never ever found any decent rings either.

Most 3.x versions have multiple sources that you usually find before Tarrasque-depth. Firestar/Gothmog/Azaghâl/Eöl for fire and Turmil/Eönwë for cold usually (Turmil usually). Combine with Ring of power Narya/Nenya. Vilya is rarer. Taratol usually for IM_ELEC, if I don't have Stormwalker. I use Taratol activation often with warrior, so even that it is weaker weapon than most high-level weapons and I don't need IM_elec, elec brand, kill dragon and haste makes it pretty useful.

Usual suspects for IM_ACID (Thorin, Ulmo, Tuor)

Couple of rarer IM-granting The One, Razorback, Deathwreaker.

            That's 20.
