Dang ... Tenser's Transformations on Level 2 on the floor ... Raal's Tome of Destruction on the floor at dungeon Level 19.

And now guess what class i play?

Of course ... Paladin with priest powers.

I have made a habit of squelching all unusable books at the start of a game. So now I miss those awesome, but wrong finds

LOL - I made another post, in which I mentioned that I was actively searching for Tenser's. I finally found it after I had bounced up and down through level 75 half a dozen times. The RNG's do have a sense of humor - Tenser's was the last book I found, and I STILL only have one! It stays at home - I do a load of arrows each trip back to the store, and put Tenser's back on it's special little shelf!

I used to do that, but then I found that it is annoying when you get a level feeling that tells you there's something excellent on the level and you keep searching for it for ages not realising that it is squelched.

I have slowly managed to get used to un-squelch things after drinking potion of enlightenment, then check what is in the floor.

It still sometimes grants great item feeling without anything great in sight. Things might get destroyed by elementals and xorns/xarens, or thief picks them up and then something tramples over that thief.

Once again, the easiest solution here is to just turn off level feelings. They're dumb.
