    Here, there be dragons!

    WHOOT!

I've been killing baby dragons for awhile now. Recently graduated to young dragons. Today, I ran away from a basilisk on level 33, went all the way through level 34, and in the last room on the map, I found a baby dragon, a young dragon, and an Ancient Green.

Yeah, I should have run away again. But, I potted up with speed, read a Holy Chant, found the best spot for my level 29 ranger, targeted the baby, then the young, and finally the Ancient.

Well, yes, of course that old Grand-daddy came after me. No way was I taking him out with just bolts, without takiing a few hits! I only had to quaff three CCW and two Neutralize Poisons - his hit points were going down pretty quickly when I started swinging Gondricam!

    Dang, I'm psyched up now!!

This sure beats the scrumming I did earlier in the day to find all those potions of speed!

    WHOOT!!!

Yeah, I know - all you veterans are just laughing because I'm nowhere near ready for the deep dungeons.

Experience points? Not sure - did I get 6000 points off of that encounter? Last time I remember looking, I needed around 10k for next level. Right now, I need 3,374. Wow, that's a lot of XP if so!

There must be a "right way" to post a character dump - this doesn't look like the "right way".

Rings of strength and dexterity generally aren't worth it - you'll have better results with a ring of damage (gives you a bonus of +X per attack, not round) and rings of constitution (extra HP). A lot of times a ring of constitution +5 or +6 can be the best thing to put on your finger all the way through the game.

Otherwise, good looking gear set, congrats on the big kill

At least there are situations in which STR/DEX can be worthwhile. But check the damage on your weapon (by 'I'nspecting it) before and after, just to be sure.

STR rings in particular can be helpful: STR gives innate +damage in addition to helping you get more blows, and it helps with your carrying capacity.

And they sustain STR, which can be valuable if you get ambushed by Dreads.

                Update, sort of.

My ranger had been throwing away all sorts of stuff that he didn't understand. (Read that to mean, I threw away stuff that I didn't understand, of course.)

Finally, he/I started experimenting. We tried that sissy ring of running away. OH WOW! It changed EVERYTHING! It kinda forced me to play my character as a ranger, because he was to frightened to FIGHT anything!

So, experimentation taught me a good deal about my character. It is foolish to play a ranger like a fighter who happens to be good with ranged weapons.

Of course, I've sunk lower into the dungeon now, and raised up in character level - and among other things, I've just found a kick-ass heavy x-bow of power. Stats aren't maxed yet, but my lowest stat (wisdom) is 18/10 now.

And, the higher I go, the more hooked I am. I guess I'll try to upload my current stats to the ladder, if anyone is interested.

                  re: dragons

Cool ... *applauds*. The Ancient Dragon was quickly ... quite a Task for a Level 30 ranger even with Gondricam.

Ho-hum. I am actively searching for Tenser, just found Kelek on level 49, being carried by a Dreadmaster. I learned 'earthquake' and 'destruction' from it, but I'll just stash this book in my house. Inventory management - I can't carry EVERYTHING cool that I find!

Destruction is *amazing*. Removes everything nearby, a excellent way to permanently remove nasties from a level where you don't want them to ever have Line of Sight.

Once you get it to 0% your character is very difficult to kill since you can bail from fights every time. It doesnt kill, so you wont get exp or items. Careful of destroying items nearby you wanted.
