I am realy not used to playing melee chars, which will Change now
Boy ... HO ranger with 2.7 blows per turn after the first potion of brawn is SOOO much fun after playing mages or bow rangers. You see something, you run up to hit you shquisch it ... unfortunately Nar prooved to not fit into this strategy.

I like the thread about what is interesting in the game. As you can see, most People have different things they find amusing. Just make it the game keeps it that way. This hal-orc warrior (even if dead - RIP) was the most fun i had for days (currently i just live for playing angband *laugh*).

I haven't played much of Vanilla myself, but lots of ToME2 and TomeNET (and some Sil). I enjoy playing casters in ToME and TomeNET so my first few characters were mages. Wow, it's slow and difficult compared to those variants. I decided to go with a rogue to keep the stealth + detection + devices approach and wow, melee is a breeze to play.

This is probably my fifth character ever in Vanilla to get past the "midgame" and I think I might just win with this one. Only need to gather some more healing supplies and not waste too many on uniques or frost-breathing Ds and I can go for Morgoth.

I'm enjoying my last few days of holiday by binging on Angband

Level 31 Gnome mage who just found Tensers (which somehow prooves, you find the most important stuff always with the wrong character), nighttime around 1am - i am deadly tired ... but i thought just one more level and see ... a room full of hydras Shows up. 9x11 headed Hydra = aprrox. 70.000 XP *rub Hands*. Lured 3 Hydras into a tunnel (or did they Lure me to their room????) - fire ball + 2xfire breath = RIP *sigh*

But i am on my way to write a strategy guide - every death teaches me again the most important fact about Angband - if you are not 100% sure that you can attack it AND survive the attack, just leave it alone.
