    I'm hoping I am closing to winning. I've survived to clvl50 and dlvl100 with a dwarven priest.

    Also I just found something very nice



    Would never have happened without being able to trap Morgoth outside of a vault!

    Wield it. If you find it, it's wrong not to use it even if you don't need it .

    Besides, for the final fight having all immunities, sustains and bunch of useful resists is very useful. Aggravation doesn't matter there. Looks like you don't lose too much speed either (still over +30 with both rings of Power).

    Just don't activate it unless it is your last choice.

      I found The One Ring only once (before killing Morgoth) at dlevel 96 in a randarts game.
      There is no reason not to wear it.

      Everything else looks good on your char, go get him I would say, though I never got far with a priest. ^^

        Should be rather easy fight, though he doesn't have WoG. WoG has banish evil which can be really useful in final fight.

          Since it's the first time it may not be "easy". You still need to set the fight in a good spot.
          Destruct first, or do it in a vault. It will take a while, your damage output is low.

            I did it guys! So happy!

            I see how Mass Banish would be awesome for that fight. But 0%-fail Heals and TO made it relatively easy, if slow.

            My first ladder entry!




            Getting Speed + imFire + rPoison and rNether relatively early was a huge help. Took me ages to get rChaos and rDisenchantment, but it really didnt' seem to matter (as long as I had rConf).

              You may want to rely on Orb, in fact. I doubt your hit rate against Morgoth is very good, and if you fight him in melee then you'll have to stop every third round or so to heal. Orb is a guaranteed...what is it, 150+ damage per shot? And you can stay out of melee range that way. Makes dealing with summons easier too since you won't get surrounded.

                Congratulations! A first win is big, but the good thing is that the next game has so many options it's almost a first too.You can choose a different race & class and/or random artifacts and/or a variant such as e.g. FAangband. I did a warrior first, then randart priest. Later some variants too. FA and poschengband would be my recommendation. Sil is great fun too, very big changes from vanilla.

                  Congrats!
                  I can still remember how it felt to win for the first time (after many many years of playing in my case). It is such a thrill with adrenalin from the fight and endorphines for joy over the win.

                    Priest "banish evil" is mass TO all evil creatures in LoS. Not the same as mage mass banish which wipes all non-uniques off the map in LoS range visible or not.

                      They're both useful, but for my money Banish Evil is probably a better spell for the final fight, at least if there are still uniques left alive. Practically everything Morgoth can summon is evil (in fact I think the only exceptions are all non-evil uniques like Huan), which means Banish Evil will always work on them. Mass Banish has the benefit of working on monsters that aren't in LOS -- but then again, monsters that aren't in LOS aren't generally that urgent to deal with.

                        Ancient dragons have two non-evil types: Balance and Law dragons. Other than that I think all non-uniques are evil.

                        ...or not. Those two used to be non-evil, but it looks like after monster-base.txt was added to game they lost that, and now they are evil just like all the other dragons.

                          Yeah, nothing matches lategame mage utility. I just still wish they had the good item detection spell. I've considered tinkering with my edit files to give them Detect Treasure (rather than Detect Objects) but at the lvl/fail/manacost of D.Objects. I just have much more fun with the Rogue class style of item-sniping.
