    R.I.P Blarg VIII

Blarg VIII, the half troll, met his demise this morning. He was level 31 and made it down to level dl40. The furthest any of my characters have ever managed to get.

Everything was going great until he bumped into a new enemy named Quaker. He fought bravely and fiercely, and he almost managed to kill it, but Quaker started ripping apart the entire level. Blarg teleported away just in time, clear across to the other side of the level. Thinking he was safe, he started to explore this new section when suddenly Quaker came rushing at him. I've never seen a monster do this before and was not prepared for it.

This was my best game of angband ever. I was being really cautious, fleeing whenever things got even a little hairy. I felt unstoppable and thought I was doing really well until Quaker showed up. I was sad to lose Blarg but it was really fun trying to take that thing down.

Congrats on your, ahem, success. There aren't many uniques that can move through walls, but when one finds you it usually sucks. Always have Teleport Level in your pack. They are every bit as crucial as Word of Recall, maybe more.

Sorry for your loss. That's rough.

As a general piece of advice, warriors should carry a missile weapon -- usually a good bow or crossbow. If you find something that's tearing you apart in melee, then fight it at range instead, using Phase Door every time the monster gets close to you. Of course, many monsters have dangerous ranged attacks as well, but they'll cast those when they're in melee range anyway, so staying out of melee means you take strictly less damage. As long as your missile weapon outputs damage fast enough, anyway.

And you won't have any way of knowing this, but none of the elemental uniques drop anything. The XP is negligible. Quite simply he was not worth fighting. A couple things like this will teach you how and when to run away properly.

Hear the advices here and start watching fizzix videos - you will improve. Never had any winner so far too. Always have also the problem that i get deeper and deeper until suddenly that one monster appears that i cant really handle but i try to.

I do usually carry a range weapon but I've never thought to use phase door as a method of attack. I always just considered it a quick escape if I didn't have teleport. I'm gonna have to give this a try.
