What am I doing wrong?

The good news is that you're only going to have to fight one monster at a time (except for the summoners. Mind you, if you're standing next to them and they're surrounded by vault, can they summon behind you?).
Also, don't forget that if you read a phase door you'll be dumped outside of the entire thing, which will give you plenty of time to rest up. The pathfinding will probably mean the current freed beasty won't be able to find a way out.
Your biggest problem, as you mention on your ladder dump, is your terrible damage output. Lots of those baddies resist poison so you'll only be doing 49 damage per round, which will take a long time to wear down a greater wyrm.
The worst things in there are the great wyrm of many colours and the Mouth of Sauron (well, the bottom half of him anyway), but they're quite a ways in. And don't walk into the Death Mould. And watch out for that Scruffy Looking Hobbit!
If only you had more than 2 charges on your TO it would be simple! Or even a single rod of TO. I don't suppose you've found more TO since your ladder dump?
Maybe it would be better to run screaming into the distance after all!Comment

Haha, thanks for the advice. I took the latter part of valor, as well as the latter part of your advice (insinuating, perhaps, that your advice is valor?) and ran screaming into the distance. I didn't even want to mess with the Beholder hive-mother, even though I had a charge of TO. She could cast darkness storm for more than my current max health and I didn't want to mess with that.Comment

Timo, I've actually passed that vault and moved on since, didn't even try to mess with it that much. The main reason I play with tiles is because I can't figure out how to get the text to not stretch when I resize the window on a Mac... the same amount of tiles always is displayed, no matter what the resolution of the window is. Is there a way around this by any chance?Comment

Okay, awesome. Can I play a 3.4.1 character in 3.5? I'd love to have more tiles displayed but don't want to lose my current character. (speaking of which, I just uploaded him to the ladder, he's doing pretty good in comparison to my other characters).
Also, the tile size is controlled by the font size, so you can adjust that to get the tile size that you want.Comment

Ah, okay, thanks molybdenum. Any idea where I could find a Mac build of 3.5? Can't seem to locate one.
Also, I found Ringil!Comment
