If you haven't fought Morgoth before it is a bit...different fight. Have fun.

Just a bit warning: Step from Sauron to Morgoth is a lot bigger than from Feagwath to Vecna (just to take one example).

The first and only time I fought Morgoth it took about 2 hours of real time. Be ready.

at least for me, the first time fighting morgoth was by far the most exciting thing i experienced in angband (maybe apart from finding the first non-phialic artifact)... so i guess/hope you'll have fun (+stress ).
i found it to be pretty much different than any other fight because the shatter-attacks. it's nice, you'll see

I've already fought a couple monsters who have shatter (Atlas, and someone else now, I can't remember.) That part is pretty fun

We'll see -- I don't think I have enough healing to take him on, yet. But scumming for more consumables at deep dungeon levels is a good way to get bored+killed, so I might just give it a go... lol

I almost can't believe that I'm still scavenging

OK, now I think I'm just being a coward. I should go kill Morgoth already.

I just really want a Mace of Disruption of Slay Evil

*Slay Evil* would be even better. Is that even possible?

(I'd settle for Deathwreaker :P lol)

I think I might just re-kit so that I'm using the Glaive of Pain, and go take the big boss. I have ~20 full heals w/ Life and *Healing* potions, plus staves and minor healing.

Also, what's up with bows? Shooting speed is ridiculously overpowered. The Long Bow of Bard does far less dmg than my Short Bow of Amras, and the only reason I can think of is b/c shooting speed +1 means that I can shoot twice as fast.

Having 2 shots/round is twice as powerful as having 1 shot/round, yes. There's plans to break up shots/round so that they're more like blows/round (so e.g. getting 1.5 shots/round instead of 2, much less drastic).

There's weapons of *Slay* Evil, but they don't do any more damage. They just give you some extra bonuses (WIS and See Invisible? It's been awhile since I looked at one). Honestly, the Glaive of Pain is plenty of damage. I generally figure for Morgoth I want to be hitting at 450+ damage/round if I can manage it. 540'll do ya fine.

Thanks for the advice. I think I'm ready now. The next time I have a few hours to spare, I'm going to give it a shot. I find trawling the 98-99 floors to be sort of calming, so I don't mind having to spend a couple weeks rebuilding my consumables stock if Morgoth ruptures me the first time around -- provided I survive, of course

Thanks to the support of everyone here, I won!! This was my 3rd character total, and my 1st winner ever.

I re-kitted things so that I dropped Thunderfist and used the Glaive of Pain instead. I had to swap some other things around to get sustain-all while still have 18/*** STR.

I basically just buffed up, wacked Morgoth when he was in melee range, and TO'ed him if uniques showed up and then slung destruction. Banishments took care of the rest.

Plain vanilla Healing potions did me well for most of my healing, but I quaffed a fair number of *Healing* and Life as well.

IMO, the shatter mechanic actually hurts Morgoth more than it helps him. The extra damage from debris is a pain, but all the rubble actually helps manage the summons when they show up.

I had a lot of consumables left over when he finally croaked, but I'm glad I was overprepared. It could have been a lot worse. I think he only manastormed me 3 or 4 times. Sauron was much worse for that.

Dunno if I'll keep diving or not -- based on my fight just now, there are only 3 uniques left But it was a fun ride, nonetheless.

Thanks again everyone -- especially Derakon and Timo for the patience and many in-depth posts explaining basic things to me!

Congrats on the win - I just recently got my first as well, and then I got my first in NPP not long after that

Also... had three unis left... when morgoth went down (X-files music cue)

Anyways - IT's tons of fun to beat him down - You never forget when your @ takes a win.

I think M would actually be slightly more interesting to fight if he used frost and flame attacks with very low frequency. The notion of having your potions or books popped would be exciting

One thing that makes M so dangerous is that he doesn't have many spells, and those that he does have are all very dangerous. Adding anything to mix would lower the frequency of others.

I would like to see some sort of chaos storm in his arsenal though. Same as mage spell, but you as target. Makes monsters around you a bit less predictable.
