    My best char ever...

    ToME.
My best char ever died just now: Shara, the Dunadan Sorceress. Died at clvl = dlvl = 22 (Orc Caves). She dived through the caves completely unprepared, no resistances except paralysis, only three spellbooks (Cantrips, Noxious Cloud and Id), not even a basic Magestaff.
She made it to the last level, which was a small one. She killed everything except an undead elite uruk, which killed her. That's frustrating, being killed by the last monster on the last level... By the way, she was my second char that made it to the orc caves, the second one that made that kamikaze dive and the second one that died on the last level.
However, she was the first of my chars to find the phial (Deathwatch... btw: It had "Radius 0" in it's desc) and some weird gloves... uh... Cammithrim or something like that.

I think I feel so ubermighty after killing thousands of orcs ("You have killed at least 37416 of these.") that I start playing way too fast...
If you can convincingly pretend you're crazy, you probably are.

I'm not much of a TOME player, but I think Cammithrim is guaranteed on that level.

SEMI-SPOILER: That's not the only thing guaranteed to be there, IIRC, so be sure to explore it carefully next time you get there.

Suffice to say that certain uniques and artifacts are guaranteed to be dotted about, although I forget which ones now.

I hear that spells like detect objects and sense area can be very useful for rooting out the secrets hidden in the dark corners of special floors. Be aware that ToME restricts the use and effects of some spells in some places, but a couple of scrolls of magic mapping should be enough for the Caves.

EDIT - Actually, re-reading this I'm starting to think that we may both be offering advice for the Deathwatch floor, and not the final one... ToME has been a while.

You should have been able to handle that monster BTW, what happened? Just carelessness or did you press the attack when out of healing because it was the last monster? The last monster is often dangerous in this way, just like a unique down to one star...
        You sold a Broken Sword (1d2) (-2,-4) {average} (j) for 1 gold.
        The shopkeeper howls in agony!
You say "Dude, the clue is in the name...".

In fact, it was carelessness in it's pure form. I didn't see him, started to rest (using "5", otherwise I wouldn't get Piety from Eru). When I saw it, it was in melee range and I near death. I pressed the false direction while casting Manathrust...

I'm definitely offering advice about Deathwatch.. if that's the special level that Cammithrim shows up on in the Orc caves.. like I said, I am not much of a TOME player. Anyway, suffice it to say that detect is very useful there, and that as a beginner it is worth building a bladed weapon character for what you will find there.

As for not getting killed after that, well.. that is standard angband.
