YASD(FAangband edition) or trapdoors are your friends...

So my hobbit rogue met his death at the hands of a black Orc. I was mashing the buttons a bit and hadn't noticed that his hit points had gotten so low. But the good thing was that I discovered that trapdoors lead to a dungeon. The dungeon is a great source of xp, plus you can contain crowds. I was trying to do this when I got overwhelmed by The Black Orcs. I had a Main Gauche of the Noldor and had 3 blows with 24hps of damage and I thought that I could handle the crowd. Guess not. Oh well live and learn I guess. Since then I have been using the trapdoors to my advantage though.

If you can't find a trap door, TL has a similar effect 1/2 the time, but I'm guessing you already figured that out.

I've only gotten to a mountain top with TeleL. Didn't know that it could send you to a dungeon as well. Thanks!

?Tele Level and ?Tele Self are available in towns in FA. Without them, it's almost impossible to survive the early levels. (You probably have a higher survivability rate with thrall mode.)

Oh I've been using Tele level a lot, its just that it seems like money is tight in this game and its hard to buy stuff since its pricier than in V. Even on sale.

Well, if money is a problem, you can start at dl 20 and lose a bunch of characters very quickly. Soon enough you'll get lucky, and get off to a decent start. Not to mention you start out with better stats, and potentially a nice weapon or ESP. And always remember the rule for a starting FA character:

In Soviet Russia, stairs scum you!
