    Yawp!

So I finally got a Mage to *WINNER* status. Using the great advice from the folks on here to do that. Although I was able to figure out how to get this character all the way to Morgoth, I tried to fight Morgoth like a ranger would and failed. So I fled the scene and returned with some equipment switched up and a good strategy for a Mage. I found a nice big room and set up doors at the north east corner then I waited for Morgoth to come to me. Since I had killed most if not all the really dangerous uniques I looked forward to him summoning some of the Orc and Troll uniques that I had spared earlier for this fight. At first he seemed to be all about summoning dragons and undead. Which I just banished away. Finally though he did summon some Orcs. Inbetween him summoning and me banishing I mana stormed him then teleported him away when he got too close. I should also mention that I set up RoP when I had the chance so that he had a harder time getting to me. He never got to hit me once. In the middle of the battle I noticed some boots that were lying around and so instead of mana storming Morgoth I teleported him away and got the boots. The boots turned out to be Feanor. Pretty cool if you ask me. So now I was much faster than Morgoth and able to hit him with mana storms and the occasional Holy might/slay evil ammo.

In short order he was done for and I had my second clean win! So thanks to everyone for helping me become a better player. You guys and gals(maybe?) took years off of the learning curve for me.

Understatement of the year. Those boots are the rarest and best artifact in the game. It's the only item into game that doesn't have any competition, it is always the best item of its class.

Why do you think they are the best artifact in the game? Other than give you speed they don't do much else. I'd think that the One Ring is better. And I'd like to get Mediator or the artifact MoD. That thing must be pretty damn awesome. I just don't see how Feanor is the end all be all of artifacts. Granted I was happy when the boots showed up.

They give +15 speed. That much speed allows using two RoP instead of just one. And there is nothing in boots that comes even close to them. Ego BoS +10 is closest.

The One aggravates and usually when I find it I don't need it. The One has alternatives. That is the sad truth about The One. It still isn't worth aggravation until the last fight where aggravation really doesn't matter. But last fight gear is rarely the best gear for adventuring.

Mediator isn't very special. Normal artifact in fact. Way less useful than Caspanion and if you are lacking any of the basic 4 then Isildur, Rohirrim, Belegennon or Celeborn beats it. In many cases Thalkettoth beats it. Now that there are ego-DSM:s in dev-versions it looks even worse in comparison.

Deathwreaker is nice to have but again not the best of its class. It is heavy, so warriors don't get enough blows with it and mages have hard time using it at all. And it aggravates. I'd say something like Pain, Eonwe, Aule or Eowyn beats it in most cases.

You don't appreciate speed in single item enough. Your RoS +15 + Feanor +15 gives you +30 speed _without any other boost_. You can tweak the rest of your gear in any way you wish. Also Feanor activates for haste with rather fast recharge which is important if you play priest or paladin. Because unhasted +20 is enough for comfortable adventuring before final fight you get that with something like Feanor, Trickery and Belthronding/Amras/Bard. Add in RoP or two, maybe Gondor/Numenor and Colannon and you have excess speed. You could run around using branding ring instead of RoS.

          Timo:

Very good point about not needing a RoS with Feanor ; ) Once again I'm humbled. i guess I just need to think outside the box. I still have my mage so I'll play around with my gear and see what works out. Thanks again: )
