    What now?

    I just mowed down Sauron with hardly any trouble at all, and decided to take a stab at Morgoth. He was tougher than I expected though, it was an epic battle with a few close calls and stupid risks on my part, in the end I was completely out of supplies and there was literally no way I could have finished him even though I got him down to three stars. If I just had a few more scrolls of *destruction* and banishment I'm convinced that I could have taken him. The risk taking was due to knowing that if I fail I will probably leave this guy for a while until I muster up the energy required to scum for supplies for a new go, I hate scumming...

    Ah well, in the end I was only saved by my 5% fail TLev spell, close call. So yeah, that's where I am basically. Sauron dead but no consumables at all for the big P. What do you veterans do when you find yourselves in a spot like this? Just dust yourselves off and get scumming? Dump follows:

    I didn't read through your dump, but I would say that the most important consumables are healing and Destruction. Everything else is largely a nice-to-have. Fortunately, you can get as many potions of Cure Critical Wounds as you like from the temple. Unfortunately there's no reliable source of Destruction scrolls. Still, for an archery strategy, what I'd suggest is:

    * Destruct an area, preferably in the corner of the map, and wait for Morgy to arrive.
    * Once he enters LOS, start shooting him.
    * When he summons:
    ** If you can't handle being in LOS of all of them for even one turn, phase away first.
    ** Teleport him away and Destruct the summons.
    * When he damages you with spells, phase away and chug Cure Critical Wounds potions.
    * When he gets close to melee range, teleport him away.

    Your only consumables using this strategy are ammo, ?Phase, !CCW, and ?Destruct. It's not quite as reliable as I'd like, largely because Phase Door won't necessarily take you out of LOS. But it's still a reliable strategy.

      Your melee is very poor for a warrior going after Morgoth. 240 damage/turn is priest-level, at best. And taking him with archery is going to be tough, too, although that sling will help.
      You will need to let him get some whacks in to break up LOS; otherwise ?Phase & !CCW recovery is too dangerous.

        Hehe, yeah, the original plan was just to trade a few blows and see how it goes, I got a bit carried away when I noticed I was actually doing some damage to him. I started out with two stacks of slay evil ammo and one stack of holy might, it's almost all gone now though.

        The melee weapon department of this game has been awful, the scimitar I'm wielding is quite literally the most damaging weapon I have found so far. I've probably found in the order of three to four of the big guns (BoC, MoD and SoS), none of them with any useful ego.

        In all fairness I should really be dead by now with the way I played that fight, I guess the RNG was kind enough to give me another chance. Lesson learned, next time I'll be better prepared. I will probably search for a nice melee weapon and some more stacks of slay evil ammo and have another go, thanks for the advice!
