    Best starting weapon ever

I had just started a new game, dwarf paladin, and Farmer Maggot is in town. I decide to take him out, as whatever he drops should be at least sellable, when much to my surprise, he drops a Rapier (Defender). It was by far the best drop I have ever gotten from him, and I hadn't even entered the dungeon yet.

I died at 1900' though, a 7-headed hydra in a vault. My dump's under Lurrorik XIII

That is a very nice drop indeed from Maggot. Best I've ever got from him was a warhammer of extra attacks, not that I'm complaining.

Don't think I ever got an ego-weapon from Maggot- a stack of 4 well-balanced Daggers of the Noldor from the Complainer was rather nice, though... (FAA)

I tend to get armour rather than weapons from Maggot/Bill Ferny. Best ever was red DSM, but I've also had a shield of Resistance (arguably even more useful early on) and boots/gloves of FA on a few occasions.

Once got two daggers from Bill Ferny in O and sold one because I couldn't afford ID and was pretty sure the net gain from ID would be small ... turned out they were Well-balanced Daggers Of *Slay* Undead ... ouch. Lost about 6k gold for want of that ID.

I remember rolling a priest and immediately finding Farmer Maggot in town. I beat on him for a while, IDed the weapon he dropped... OMG A HOLY AVENGER!

Still giggling with joy, I took the turn around the corner and got bopped over the head *once* by a Battle Scarred Veteran and died.

          It broke my heart.

Farmer Maggot dropped a Pattern Weapon for my friend when he played a *band for the first time.

(For those of you who don't know Entro, that's an ego weapon giving +2 STR, CON, free action, see invis, slay evil, demons and undead, and a couple random high resists.)

Hmm- in V, the best strict starting weapon is almost always an enchanted bow. I recently had a start where maggot was in town the first day and dropped an ego weapon- the store had enchant scrolls and I was able to enchant a heavy xbow up to (+4 +8). It's not as sexy as some other possibilities, but it is overpowering until around 1500', if you can get enough ammo for it.

Got a longsword (or mace I can't remember) of *Slay* demon (+10, +6) or something in those lines
                It senses demon
It is a great bane of demons
                It affects your intelligence (+2)
                And other things

I apologize for placing an unrelated topic into your query, but I've been trying to figure out how to post my own questions onto the forum and haven't had much luck...

In response to your query, I'd have to say that the best I've ever gotten from farmer maggot was a broken dagger (-2,+15) (+1) of Westernesse, it was weird...

Go to the relevant Forum eg AAR, Vanilla, Variant etc and press the new thread button near the top left. This will enable you to start a new thread where you can ask your question(s). Hope this solves your problem

While testing out scrolls on DL2, i found a summon scroll...and summoned about 10 orcs in a hallway....a phase door scroll and a load of arrows later, i pick up my spoils and find...The Battle Axe of Balli Stonehand! Sadly, it is still to this day possibly the best weapon ive found in all of my games.

I just had to resurrect this thread. I started up a rogue, spawned next to Farmer Maggot, went after him, and voila:

                            Code:
                            a) a Morning Star (Defender) (2d6) (+4,+7) [+2] (+4 stealth)
                                 +4 stealth.
Provides resistance to acid, lightning, fire, cold.
Cannot be harmed by acid, electricity, fire, cold.
                                 Sustains intelligence.
Feather Falling. Speeds regeneration. Prevents paralysis.
Grants the ability to see invisible things.

                                 Combat info:
                                 1 blow/round.
With an additional 6 strength and 0 dex you would get 2 blows
With an additional 2 strength and 6 dex you would get 2 blows
                                 Average damage/hit: 16.6.
Optimally the base item could have been a main gauche or something, not that I'm complaining though.

I recently found a good longbow of power. +6 +18 or sometning on a ranger which is arguably better.
