Heh, that's what diving is all about. IMHO rnether is overrated (especially if you have hold life) - you can only count on it protecting you from 14% of the damage, which is really not much.

I would continue to dive without rnether and see what happens. Sitting around waiting for a particular artifact is a recipe for death-by-boredom-induced-carelessness.

    Good luck,

I'm wearing the artifact boots, but at least I'm diving again after my earlier fit of the heebie-jeebies. Currently at 2700' and in my last session I managed to bag a few kills at 10,000+ XP each, including an Ethereal Dragon. I hate those things.

I just went down to 2800'. There's a GCV in it. There's a Long Sword (4d5) in it, as well as all manner of stuff I can't possibly handle. Time to die...

Well, that turned out to be a lot less dangerous than I thought. Let's hear it for Teleport Other! The vault had Ringil AND Cubragol, as well as Gondor and Celeborn and other stuff besides. In the words of Hannibal Smith, "I love it when a plan comes together".

Dancing rodents! That's a great feeling, successfully looting a vault - Ringil and Cubragol is such an awesome combination. More speed, vicar?

Now you just have to, er ... win.

                Good luck,

Gah - coming up to 11 years of 'banding and I've *still* never found Ringil yet (although Eonwe's been good enough for me twice). Nice work - fingers crossed, you're well on your way to 4950' now...

Aaargh! Don't jinx it! Whenever a player says "I'm going to w**!" the Random Number God gets angry and smites the impudent sinner with mana storms.

But there are few things sweeter than cracking open a big fat vault and escaping with armfuls of artifacts. This was one of the most profitable raids in my "career," perhaps second only to the time my first winner found a Plain Gold Ring in another vault while scumming 4950' for potions.
Winner #2, Lucky the aptly-named Dunadan Warrior, found Feanor but that was in a pile of Great Wyrm giblets, not a vault, so it doesn't count.

Quick question for the experienced mage players out there - how likely is it to accidentally kill oneself with Banishment? I have 465 HP.

Your char takes 1d4 damage for each monster removed.
That is ~2.5, which means, there had to be more than 180 monsters of the same kind to kill your char at full health. That is quite unlikely I think. (Dragon pits and such contain 95 monsters I think, which are not all represented by the same letter.)

Thanks. That should mean I can banish Z without trouble, and makes vaults easy pickings. In theory.

Just don't use it when not at full health or while dangerous monsters are nearby.

And don't use it on breeders, because they can easily reach the 200 mark once out of control.

Thanks once again for your advice. I would not have three winners to my credit were it not for you and the other mentors on the oook. I will, of course, keep you all informed of Telethel's progress. Not that I've made any in the last couple of days - when I'm this close to winning I play in short, focused bursts.
