    I need some advice!

Hi guys this is the dump of my latest char: http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=10298

I found a Crown of Serenity in the BM which would grant me resistance to fear confusion and sound. Should I go for it?

Any other advice on the equipment? The Star of Egnol and the rod of detection are quite handy when it comes to power-diving! I was dying to find for a rod of trap detection but it seems I found something way better. Telepathy would be even better but hey, you can't really complain.

I think diving and detecting carefully is making my game more rogue-like than warrior-like but hey, it does pay off!

It's a nice swap if nothing else. If you can afford it, buy it. You're going to lose the rBlind on your current helm, which makes it a tough choice.

Why not carry the staff of speed in your home? It can always be recharged.

You can get it because you might want it in the future, but it's not an upgrade to your current kit because of the elvenkind + rconf armor. Basically you'd buy it for the situation where you come across a good armor (soon) and want to switch it out and keep rconf. It's a pretty low chance, especially since the next big upgrade for you (telep) is more likely to be found on a helm or amulet. So I wouldn't really sell anything to get it.

With rblind and rconf, scrolls of teleport level, deep descent and *destruction* are your sure escapes. Buy any of them you see.

Any reason you're not carrying around that staff of speed?

Well I relied more on teleportation than simply escaping w/speed.

There have been already quite some changes, how do I update a dump?

Speed isn't for escaping. It's for doubling your damage output so you can kill enemies you wouldn't otherwise be able to touch.

To update a dump, simply re-upload it; the website will recognize that it's the same character and replace the old dump.

            Here we go! http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=10298

I made some changes, sold a lot of stuff to buy this ring of flames, didn't know it I made the right choice but at least I got a new brand resistance and some more AC!

The Ring of Flames is mostly useful for its resistance and for fire-branding your weapon. Armor class is usually not worth worrying about.

              Here's my suggestions:
              * Get some more bolts. Currently ammo in the quiver cannot be destroyed by enemy attacks, so the only reason to not carry more ammo with you is weight -- and you have massive strength, so that shouldn't be an issue.
              * Hit ~ and go to the object menu, then find the entries for scrolls of Teleportation, Teleport Level, and Word of Recall. Inscribe them with "!*" (without the quotation marks) so you'll get a confirmation message before doing anything with them. Otherwise it's all too easy to accidentally waste your teleports.
              * Carry a source of identify in your inventory. I generally buy out the alchemist's identify scrolls and recharge scrolls, and carry a staff of Identify with me in the dungeon.

Otherwise, your gear looks pretty decent. Be on the lookout for shields of Elvenkind, which will give you resistance to all four basic elements and really free up your armor situation. Your gloves and cloak are nothing particularly special. Nice boots, though.

heh, so you did find an armor upgrade, although, I think I might still have gone with the elvenkind + seeing for both rconf and rblind. rchaos isn't very useful at all however the +4 str might have net you an extra blow. Hard to tell.

Watch out for poison breathers. Hold onto any =rpois you find.

I'd carry that wand of TeleOther and staff of DisEvil. You could easily get in a jam with only the rod. And the staff will let you clear orc pits/troll pits in a snap. If they get destroyed, at your depth you should come across more fairly easily. Actually, that rod of TeleOther is probably your best find, but don't rely on it too much...

                    Thanks everyone!

Yeah I really need a resistance/elvenkind shield now! Also rPois... I still never met one but I read enough about the infamous instakill Drolem breath. At least I got decent detection, never thought I would have been able to "detect monsters" easily with a warrior. And yes I never take identify with me in the dungeon but it's cool for garbage disposal and other stuff, I guess at this depth it will become handy.

Miyazaki: yeah I thought that would come in handy later but I guess there's no need to play so conservative. The only problem with that choice would be the equipment slots... sometimes what to get back home becomes too hard a choice. Any advice on what to throw away from my backpack?

It looks like you have a ton of room in your backpack! Here's what I usually will carry as a warrior at around your depth.

                      ?phase (about 10)
                      ?deep descent/tele level
                      ?recall (or -recall)
_teleport (or ?teleport if i have both rconf and rblind, Ditch this if I have ample _destruct)
                      _identify
                      -light (usually 3 or 4)
                      -illumination (if no ESP)
-to (usually wands unless I have 2 or 3 rods)
! heroism (sometimes don't bother if I have rfear)
                      ! CCW (10-20)
                      _speed
                      _*destruct* (if i have it)
?satisfy hunger (first thing to read and ditch)
-detection (or -DObj, -DStairs, _DEvil if I haven't found -detection, if I just have one rod of -detection and no ESP, I'd probably bring _DEvil down with me also)

I'll usually have 2 slots devoted to quiver (it used to be 3-4 ammo slots), 1 or 2 for weapon/armor swaps, and about 3 for pseudo-ing, bring stuff back home.

In your case the only thing I'd ditch is the sleep monster rod. It's outlived its usefulness. If you're filling up your backpack with stuff to sell, it means you should probably start leaving more stuff in the dungeon.

The biggest thing I'd add to the list is ?treasure or -treasure.

I also like to carry _mapping, but usually I ditch them to pick up more loot.

I included -dobj, you just have to look closely. It gets obsoleted by -detection though when you pick that up.

Thanks guys, I learned a lot thanks to you!

I even bought a _*destruction* but in the end I died stupidly because I didn't know that the Ancient Multi-Hued Dragon is a poison breather. Will be more careful next time!

Yup, I saw it. I find that the recharge time on -detect is too long for my play style. It is both useful and annoying. So I usually keep other detection methods on hand even after finding one. Of course, it's most annoying for a warrior. I don't think that a single rod can obsolete all other detection methods, especially when diving. There are times when you need that serial detection that a rod just doesn't handle.
