    Too much stuff.

Well this is by far the best character I've ever run. The problem is, I don't know what I am doing.

Am I ready? Do I need a better launcher? What to do with all this crap I have? I know these are common questions, but after years upon years of playing Moria/Angband, I am just ready to get a win under my belt.

If you were playing a high elf ranger like I am I'd say find about 40 arrows or bolts of holy might and kill morgoth. Rangers have that wonderful ability to fire multiple arrows which comes in real handy with the big m. But I guess you could do the same thing except that you would have to phase and heal a lot. Unless Priest have a way to wear morgoth down that Rangers don't.

But your stuff looks pretty solid to me. Having said that I don't have my clean win yet, so take what I say with a grain or two of salt.

I'd say sell everything in your inventory except anarion, nenya, and taratol.

You need a better weapon though if you want to melee. Good news is though that Bard is the best damage launcher out there as bows come, except maybe for Belthondring (which eats arrows quite fast).

ANyway, if you find acid arrows, use those on sauron. Slay evil / Holy might work best on morgoth.

Failing that, get a lot of high +damage arrows and shoot them to death anyway. You are quite ready for them otherwise.

Just don't let either of them drain charges from you and heal themselves...

Maeglin scares the crap out of me. Maybe I should shorten the list of uniques, I'm constantly getting surrounded by mobs of hurt.

At some point in every end-game character's life, he turns a corner and realizes that he is now powerful enough to go on a Unique-killing spree. If you're there, then start cracking. It makes M and Maeglin much less powerful when they can't summon a ton of purples and their escorts.

And also don't underestimate the power of a well-geared melee priest against Sauron and Morgoth. With infinite heals and blinks, you can wittle them down quite easily if you are patient and careful.

I took your advice and started checking off summons. Since I read this I've dropped a bunch of em. When you cast Banish Evil on Sauron/Morgoth, do they disappear along with everything else?

Banish evil teleports all evil monsters in LOS, including Sauron and Morgoth.

Killed The Tarrasque. It wasn't too bad with Immunity to Fire, and I am glad I had rDis on too. Mouth of Sauron dropped shortly after that. I am still hunting for good ammunition and maybe an upgrade to my primary. Found a Rod of Speed which is pretty handy since 'U's keep draining my staves.

Rods of Speed and Rods of Healing are very nice to have for the final fights. Also Rods of Restoration are nice if you don't have all of the sustains.

WINNER! Lots and lots of arrows, blink and heals. A couple of TOs and Banishes and he goes down

I'm seriously excited, this is my first winner in a roguelike and I used to play Moria on my dad's puke green screened Compaq when I was very young. I appreciate everyone's advice, I don't know if it would've happened without you.

                      Thanks!

My turncount seems high in comparison to others. I think part of the reason is I rested a lot at the beginning to recharge mana for OoD use. Later on I regained a lot via moving and sometimes from !RestoreMana.

I did hangout at 1950' for a long time because of my lack of rPois too.

Now that I have a win, I'm thinking about my next adventure. A Kobold Rogue sounds fun. I want to see about becoming more efficient and getting my turncount down. Now that I know what it is like deep in the dungeon, I know more about what to look for and how to manage my inventory.

I might try out a variant too. Maybe DaJangband because no selling seems like fun.

Priests have much slower starts than most other classes. They have bad melee and their only practical attack spell is fairly expensive, which means lots of resting. In the late game they become impressively fast, largely thanks to 0%-failure healing and Clairvoyance, which let them ignore everything that isn't worth any time to check out, but I don't think this outweighs their early sluggishness. It'd be interesting to see a by-class (and maybe by-race) breakdown of fastest wins, though.

Incidentally, as a general rule I wouldn't recommend using potions of Restore Mana just to save time. Especially if you have regeneration, resting to restore mana doesn't take that many turns, and once you're deep enough to have a reasonable supply of mana potions, you're also deep enough to keep a handle on how busy the dungeon is getting.

I wasn't really using them to save time, the few times I got low enough to warrant their use, I was in a battle.

I would rest a lot in the dungeon but not after every single encounter like I did when I had 28 mana which is 4 OoD's.
