Final fight
I was pretty nervous taking on Morgoth, plus I wasn't sure I had enough consumables (particularly potions). Well 300 arrows, 1 staff of banishment, 1 of heal and 1 of the Mage, 1 (!) *healing and 1 scroll mass banishment (at the end when I was almost home and realized I wouldn't need them all) was sufficient. Shoot shoot shoot banish banish recharge phase repeat.
Just had to avoid him touching me. Helped to fight in a destructed area. -

Second win!!
Won again! This time as a Dunadain Mage. Londorth2
Morgoth was fun. Decided to go for it without many consumables - just two staffs of the magi and a few healing potions. Worked well - fought in desctructed area, used mana storms and lots and lots of teleport other. Also of course banishment and mass banishment to keep the place clean. Vilya saved the day once, mind, when I was suddenly below 100Hp.
What to try next? Randarts? Priest? Or bothComment

Third win: Dwarf Priest
Mind, it hardly counts. I had Ringil and the One Ring. Almost feels like cheating ...
So what is the best way for a priest to kill Morgoth? I found a nice vault with good permanent walls and bashed him. Only supplies needed were 3 (I think) restone manas. Is there a better way? When I tried in a destructed area or in the open I just got overrun each time.Comment

Priests are pretty flexible. If they have a good melee weapon, they can sit there in melee range and trade blows with Morgoth, thanks to 0% big heals and Rune of Protection. If they have a good ranged weapon, they can shoot him down. Or they can just repeatedly blast him with Orb of Draining, a guaranteed 150+ damage/cast. All they really need is potions of restore mana to keep their heals topped up. Wrath of God is welcome for Banish Evil (which, unlike the other Banish spells, simply teleports them away, and works on uniques), but not required -- you can make up the difference with consumables like everyone else.Comment

If you have that, then basically just cast rune, hit M into head and heal when needed. Repeat until M is dead. Try to do it in as closed space as you can find. Restore mana potions are useful, and in case of stunning from earthquake it is also good to have few potions of healing. Try to have maxed CON and over +30 permanent speed or reliable source for haste (potions basically).
Doesn't get much easier than that. Priests are a bit oddity in all of the classes because they usually have more than enough consumables when they are ready to confront M unlike most other classes. Healing spells make huge difference.Comment

OK, I guess I tried that and was continually getting overrun by either non-evil monsters, or monsters out of LOS, spending all my time TO'ing and finding Morgoth was more or less healed when I was ready to face him again. Didn't want to waste my restore manas, so tele leveled away and continued hunting. How many restore manas would you guess was needed for the final fight?Comment

My general strategy for a caster or archer priest would be the following:
1) Enter level. Wait for Morgoth to show up. Head to a corner, make certain Morgoth isn't in the immediate vicinity, Destruct it. This creates a good setup for fighting him -- lots of LOS-breaking walls.
2) Wait for Morgoth to enter LOS. Start shooting him / casting Orb of Draining at him.
3) If he summons and they're chumps, leave them and keep attacking.
4) If he summons and you don't like them, Banish Evil and wait for Morgoth to come back.
5) If he summons and they're non-evil and you don't like them, Teleport Other on Morgoth, then Destruct again.
6) If he summons and they're non-evil and you can't spend a turn in LOS of all of them, Phase Door (will take you out of LOS of most of them, most likely), then TO Morgoth when he gets close and Destruct.
7) If Morgoth hits you with a painful spell, cast Healing from Purifications & Healings (1000HP heal, better than the 300HP one from the fourth prayerbook)
8) If Morgoth gets into melee range, TO him.
All told you should be able to take him out with well under 10 potions of restore mana, I'd guess.Comment

With runes most monsters are easy: just cast multiple of those in twisty corridor as preparation (doesn't need to be ASC, just corridor with turns) and melee until rune breaks, step back to next one and continue melee.
As a power of that thing, I'm currently having trouble beating Gabriel with my warrior with equipment that would make Gabriel a joke with priest and few runes.Comment

Ah, I see. I think I had two problems - I only had seven restore manas, (five when I first tried) and I don't have the confidence to continue fighting with any summoned monsters around, so I spend (waste?) time/mana to'ing them. Not sure that'll change any time soon
Of course my 30-odd scrolls of recharging and 6 staffs of the magi would more than have made up for any lack of restore mana, but staffs and melee don't mix well without a certain amount of care ...Comment
