    My first Paladin.

    Hey guys,

Been a long time (~15 years) on/off Vanilla player, never had a legit winner (had a couple winners over the years via save scumming) but I've finally found some time to work on changing that.

In the past, I mostly stuck to Bilbos (Hobbit Rogues) and the occasional HE Mage. This is my first Paladin attempt and I have to say I am enjoying it thoroughly.

Anyhow, figured since I've been lurking here for a while I'd go ahead and make my presence known.

    My dump is here: http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=9542

I got lucky relatively early on with Mahedros, but it got DE'd a few levels later and made me sad in the pants... hopefully I get my hands on a better weapon soon enough. Also, Hammerhead has been extremely valuable as well, been swapping it in for big fights with the ESP Helm for wandering about.

    Comments are obviously welcomed.

That's a pretty decent kit for that depth. You're probably even safe to dive a few levels in order to get farther into stat-gain potion depth. I'd recommend diving until you see more stat potions show up, then stay there for a while. If you hit 1900', you've gone too far. That's the level where the big breathers start showing up, like drolems, but you already got rpoison covered, so I guess you're good.

You look good for resistances and such for now, just focus on getting those stats up, and then it's dive, dive, dive!

Yeah I felt pretty lucky to come across such robust res gear so early on as well as some actually useful artifacts as well.

I feel pretty confident going down to 1800' or so and hanging around till I pump my stats sufficiently.

I'm loving the fact that I can come across a pack of baddies and throw an OoD in the middle of them, cast PfE, charge in and wade thru them hacking them to peices.

It's a lot different than what I've been used to in the past... (sneak sneak sneak STAB STAB sneak sneak SHOOT SHOOT sneak sneak STAB RUN!)

        Small update: http://angband.oook.cz/ladder-show.php?id=9542

Couple interesting finds, just building my stats at this point... got unusually high stealth at this point due to my new axe and foolish boots (WTB BoS PLEASE) and it's making killing everything I come across a lot easier... feels very weird being a sneaky pally. :P

        Ok, back to the dungeon!

Nice. Until Ive got a lot of HP, i value stealth very high. And those gloves are a really nice find for a dwarf.

Agreed 100%. Was happy as hell to see the +5 when I id'd em.

Another small update, I've been slowly boosting stats while hanging around at 1850'.

Going to venture down further soon though; I'm getting restless.

If you go down further with 381 HP, you might wear Hithlomir. +4 stealth is probably more valuable than +2 str for such a fragile character.

You kind of crippled yourself by starting with low base CON. You can better do without WIS than without CON.

Another update for the ladder, a couple of significant kills/finds/upgrades since last time. I continue to delve deeper and deeper, and I've been killing lots of nasty uniques as I go. Dare I say that perhaps there is hope for this Paladin? =)

I'd swap in the damage ring for the +4 speed ring. For additional speed you could carry your potions of speed.

Yes, you're probably right that the damage is more valuable since +4 isn't the greatest RoS. However, it's a moot point now... since I just found Narya!

Updated my dump again =) Feeling really good about this Pally!

Very nice. Can you get by with less DEX and still get 5 blows? Ellessar is much better than your current amulet, if so.

And keep your eye out for a Crown of Might -- that would really give you some freedom with your equipment. (You can also use Hammerhand, but without *Destruction* and/or Banish Evil, aggravation may be too annoying. Though you are certainly strong enough to aggravate.)

Do: carry Ethereal openings instead of Holy Infusions. Teleport other as a spell is definitely worth while. And you can drop the rods of Recall soon enough.

Also: go to dl 98. that character is strong enough to handle any opponent in the dungeon already, either teleporting away, or just bashing through with Heal spells.
