    [v3.1.1] YASD - earwe the gnome ranger

    Greetings fellow angband players! Long-time lurker, first time poster here. First by way of introduction, I should say I've been playing anband and its variants for years now on and off, and when I am playing, I like to read r.g.r.a and the forums. To give you an idea of how long, I was playing angband when this website first came into existence (I remember finding it via a google search), which isn't as long as some of you old-timers, but long enough.

    Anywho, I thought I'd post this char dump 'cause it was such a successful character, and there was much keyboard bashing and wailing and gnashing of teeth upon his death. ;_; I had lots of early successes and sweet finds, including a Wicker Shield of Resistance [2,+6] at 500ft, and a Pair of Leather Sandals of Speed [1,+1] (+4) at ~1500ft. and a Long Bow of Extra Shots (x3) (+12,+10) (+1) very early on (I forget when exactly).

    I died attempting to open a lesser vault. It was the "V" shaped one, with several walled-off rooms and several artifacts. Unfortunately, it also contained a time vortex, and I underestimated the amount of damage it would do to me unresisted. It didn't show up on my telepathy, and so I thought I was out of its line of sight. I was wrong. It only took a few breaths and I was down.

    I had just reached the beginning of stat-gain territory (I had just found my first potion on dexterity) when I stumbled on the lesser vault, but basically I was all set to go with resistances and such... FA, SI, rBasic were all found early on so I got to dive fast.

    Also, I LOVED the combo of gnome ranger... innate FA is a godsend! I may try it again. For now I must mourn. ;_;

    Ah it's never fun dying!

    Just one thing to note, you cannot resist time at all, which means later on in the game when you start seeing time hounds, finding a pack of them that isn't well confined usually means you should leave the level for safety and sanity reasons.

      vortices don't show up on telepathy at all. They're evil little buggers, especially time and aether. Luckily those two are pretty rare.

        It breathes time--more-- You die.

        The classic first death below 2500'. Mine was very similar:
        You have defeated Harowen the Black Hand.
        There is a puff of smoke! (from a newly created trap)
        The time Hound breathes time <8x>
        You die.
        Don't mess around with time-breathers: it's a nearly guaranteed losing proposition.

          Duly noted. Next time I wont be screwing around with it and instead zapping it with my wand of teleport other right away, like I did that big green 'D' I found in the same vault.
