Oh definitely not.
I mean, I appreciate the 200 odd hitpoints I got, extra mana and I could learn 5 extra spells right away (except for lack of book)

But the character felt out of balance, way too experienced to be at only dl9, but stuff too basic to be too too deep. Mind you, of course I dived (still had issues blindness/confusion/tengus teleported me into a minor demon pit and I got all my dex drained) but I'm down at statgain depth now and I don't feel over-powered. Finally got some a few decent items to balance it out.

A downside is levels are far between now and I really need to restore my stats

Down at 1650 now. Still no gain-stats.

But I finally kill a pair of Etherial drakes and a mature golden dragon to get to level 31 and restore my stats - and what do they leave me?

You have no room for a Potion of Experience.

Oh, i hate early xp potion finds. Ruins the early game somehow, and makes me play lazily
