Six shots per turn = dead Morgoth

That was fun -- ranger + bow (+1 shooting speed) + ring (+2 shooting speed).

    Character dump here.

Probably my last game for a while. Angband takes a long time to complete and for me tends to be all consuming, so I need a break.
Oh you icky things, don't you know you're driving your mamas and papas insane…

The 6 shots are pretty over the top. So are these:
    l) the Pair of Iron Shod Boots of Marnind [4,+14] <+2, +3, +12>
Dropped by Glaurung, Father of the Dragons at 4050 feet (level 81)

    +2 strength.
    +3 constitution.
    +12 speed.
    Provides resistance to cold, disenchantment.
Cannot be harmed by acid, fire.

There were a total of 5 pairs of boots/sandals/slippers with at least +9 speed in that set of randarts. Wish I was that lucky all the time!

I was wrong -- I ended up playing one more game (4.1.3) before taking a break. The character dump is here, but the most important lines are way at the bottom:

        Code:
Force player descent (never make up stairs) : yes (birth_force_descend)
Word of Recall has no effect : yes (birth_no_recall)
Playing Ironman is a very different game from standard Vanilla. Usually, I expand the size of my house so I can store anything interesting I come across that might come in handy at some point. Obviously, that's not possible when you're carrying everything you own. It was painful leaving behind great rings and a cool set of randart dragon armor, but I needed to carry enough arrows and consumables to make it through the final battles. To make room for those, I only carried six spellbooks. (Found Kelek's in a GCV at DL76 and didn't even bother taking it with me. I hope I find one that early next time I play a mage!)

I nearly tripped myself up by reading a bunch of Deep Descent scrolls after more-or-less finalizing my kit after the GCV. I had collected enough healing potions, as it turned out, but just barely, and I finished the battle with Morgoth not long after using the last of my three or four Mass Banishment scrolls. In retrospect, I would have taken more time to descend from DL76 to DL98, just to collect more scrolls. I had fire immunity by then, too...

Anyway, if any of you are looking for a change of pace, try an ironman game.

Edited to add this: Forgot to mention that the very first scroll I read after taking the stairs to DL1 was Deep Descent! Not recommended!
