    must ... beat ... estie ..

So, the most peculiar thing happened. Since the last two days, dozens, hundreds of newcomers to the town of Angband have mysteriously been throwing themselves into the lava, with no explanation.

This strange phenomenon went on for over two full days, costing countless lives, until finally a voice was hear, "this will do".

And so, a brave Dunadan Ranger, just as he was on the brink of throwing himself into the fiery lava, turned around and ventured into the dungeon below, in search of fortune, Longbows, and Arrows of Holy Might.

    Ep1. How i found a bow of lothlorien x4 (+5,+13) <+4,+2> on DL6

    It was just lying there.

    HA !!

fight 1v2 both Wormtongue and Lagdulf (for some reason, no escorts?) on DL8 and Wormtongue drops a scimitar +2 INT (probably slay animals) with ESP.
I just need rPois and FA and basically im ready for DL40.

EDIT: i forgot that my bow gives me FA.

I believe he wants to top five off-weapon blows, Estie.

As for characters walking into the lava, I've seen that same thing happen in town. Always rangers, for some reason — it's like they're not even interested in living if there's not a decent randart bow that might come their way someday.
Oh you icky things, don't you know you're driving your mamas and papas insane…

Is lava quicker or is it a better feeling than the commit suicide hotkey?

Lagduf has no escorts because there are no more hill orcs.

FYI the challenge is DPS vs Evil over speed.

Hmm, are you playing 4.2.1 ? Also, ranged damage doesnt really compare to melee damage and should imo be its own category.

In any case, if older versions and/or ranged damage are allowed, my best entry would be this one (I think):

                with

19 Seeker Arrows of Holy Might (4d4) (+18,+26)
                Slays undead, demons, evil creatures.
Cannot be harmed by acid, fire.

                Combat info:
Hits targets up to 160 feet away.
                Average damage/round: 3568.6 vs. undead, 3568.6 vs. demons, 3122
vs. evil creatures, and 2230.2 vs. others.
35% chance of breaking upon contact.

                    melee-wise it's just not possible.

                    1. it's rare already to have a big-dice weapon that goes to 11d8.
                    2. there's no guarantee in 4.1 that it will have slay evil.
                    3. 3x bonus blow artifacts are exceedingly rare.

                      @sky--
Pretty much. Estie was playing 4.2 Paladin, which guarantees slay evil (and *slay demon*.)

                          noooooooooooo

walked into dungeon at CL1 and the first mob is Fang, and he rips me apart.
I do a spoiler and find a lance 9d8 slay evil.

Just a silly mage so i wouldn't have beaten that obscene DPS but, you know, baby steps.

And this is why I don't play mage. Did I tell you about the time I found two insane launchers in the same game and I was playing a mage that game? And I rarely play Mage, and it was a version of Angband where Mage spells were brokenly powerful, so powerful I could not justify using said X7 and X6 launchers (something like +30 and +29 to dam on each of them). Very, very disappointing. Moreso since I've been playing nothing but Ranger for the last couple years waiting to find a launcher similar to either of the ones I found in that Mage game. Have I found one yet? Not even close. (Of course I don't check spoilers and I don't scum, so, it might take awhile).
