Question for you all...
Sorry, wasn't sure where else to ask this. It's not completely debt related...but I don't wanna go into.morw debt because of it.
So my car 2017 Nissan Altima is completely paid off. My husband and I recently moved to another state and I have not been able to change my license plate/registration because when I had a car loan, my dad was a cosigner. When I paid off the car, they kept him on it as an owner.
Anyway, the reason I cannot get plates is because he has to either sign the title and give me a bill of sale (because of how they did the loan) or he has to get a power of attorney paper notarized and then I have to sign and have it notarized.
Long story short, I'm not on the best terms with my parents. They don't like my choices especially when it comes to getting out of debt, among other things. I will not send the title to my dad in the mail. I do not trust him/my mom. I sent them the letter to sign and get notarized but they're completely ignoring me. My plates expire soon and I'm unsure what else I can do.
I wasn't sure if any of you have any ideas on what can be done if they refuse to sign the power of attorney paperwork.
We don't have the funds for another vehicle.
I thought about selling the car to buy another vehicle but I'm thinking I'll still need his approval or the signed paper before I do so?
Is there anyway I can get out of this or fix this without it costing me a ton as in buying another vehicle, etc.
I've talked to the bank the loan was through and they were no help. I thought a cosigner was just a cosigner...not a co-owner which is what shows on my title. They said they couldn't remove him and that he has to sign it over with a bill of sale. MVD also said the same thing. I guess I don't understand why? Especially the bill of sale when I paid for the car...
