hi,
I'm new to frogcomposband and after I saw that you can play an inanimate ring I just had to give that a try. Now Falinar fourth of her name is doing pretty well. She has reached level 48 and she has resistances that should make others envy her, but I'm running into a progression issue, that I'm not sure how to solve. I'm currently fighting in Dragon's Lair level 70 and I just don't have the damage. Average monsters here have several thousand hp and my spells do between 100 and 200 damage per turn. Even when I can outlast one of them, the turns it takes to kill anything means they have plenty of opportunities to summon more monsters or teleport away. Eventually there are way too many enemies that could sync up their breath spells so I hit my recall and blink around until it kicks in.
I have tried everything I could think of to increase my damage output:
The most obvious idea was rings of wizards, but apparently they don't do anything for me.
Consuming jewellery with the same spell multiple times does increase the damage for some of them, but only every 2^n+1 and for a tiny amount. I would need to eat hundreds of rings with corrective active for that to make a difference.
I'm not certain how my speed is calculated, but I'm pretty sure eating rings of speed doesn't do anything for me. So casting more spells in the same time isn't an option.
I have 1 point of spell power on my character sheet, but I need 2 to gain anything from that and I have no idea what gave me that first point.
I tried using summons. I have had a lot of issues with them. Their pathfinding is somehow worse than that of my enemies, they like to fight each other or my ring bearer instead of the enemy, they quickly negate/drain my sp regen and the quality of what I summon is so much worse than what I'm fighting. Summoning 2 mature dragons when I'm trying to fight greater wyrms just doesn't work. The only useful pet is the Solar that I'm riding and I live in a constant fear that he will throw me away and murder me. That starburst does a lot of damage.
How does the whole pulls you off in disgust and throws you away mechanic work? I had Smeagol out of all them throw me away. I must be terrible at that mindcontrol/corruption business if even Smeagol doesn't want me.
