    how does squelch work?

Hoe does squelch work exactly? I tried the Options and if i Pick-up weapons of a Quality lower than the squelch Setting it is dropped and destroyed.

    1. Does this cost energy and could you get killed because of it while you are running away from something and you drop (Squelch) an item?

    2. Do you Play with the Option "always pick up" the best way then?

It doesn't cost energy to squelch something. I guess hypothetically this could be used to your advantage if you were overloaded and needed to get up to speed immediately. Then again it's possible the devs already realized this and made dropping items a free action too.

Also, the items aren't destroyed; they're simply ignored. If you hit 'K' (shift-k) then squelched items will become visible. This can be handy in rare circumstances.

      side-effects?

Thanks Derakon for once again an Explanation, i understand

I Play with the Option don't stack Options on floor turned ON. I like it unlittered *g*. So if the item is just unignored, does it prevent other items from being dropped at the same spot?

I don't know off the top of my head. You should be able to test by creating a circular pile of items in the corner of a room, squelching them, and then dropping a new item in that corner; if it disappears (e.g. "The Potion of Augmentation disappears"), then squelched items can prevent new items from dropping.

You can play whichever way you want of course, but I wouldn't recommend that. It makes the game harder for very odd reasons. If you clean out a room full of monsters you have to constantly change position or clean up during the fight because otherwise you will miss out on half the loot. If you kill a high level unique you might want to deliver the killing blow in the middle of a large room instead of in a tight corridor so you don't loose half the drops.

If you want to make the game harder I would recommend the disconnected stairs option. I've been playing with that recently and it does make quite a difference if you can't immediatly leave a level you entered because you have to find an exit first.

            trying out different things

I am planning on writing a strategy guide, or if i manage to Setup an own variant or help develop vanilla. Future will Show what it works out for me.

So i am trying out different things currently to get to know most if not all aspects of the game. I already missed some Drops, so i might Play the next games with stacked items again. But then again, it is less hassle ...

            Thanks for the Input tho.

I always viewed the "don't stack" option as a form of weak iron-man game setting, a-la disconnected stairs, etc. It means you can get less object drops due to them not stacking. What you have seen as a bug, I've seen as a purposeful iron-man setting.

But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory. They're all blood, you see.”
