Permanent Rock

I have found that magic mapping, or potion of enlightenment is the best way to start. Once you can see the perimeter of the vault you can go into Targeting Mode (*) and move the curser over each segment of the vault's perimeter until you find the granite portion of the wall.

I've used a potion of enlightenment and changed to graphics but it shows permanent rock all around(all grey, no green). This is a room within the vault. I've done object location spell and there's a Chaos Blade inside so I want to get in! I'm using an amulet of ESP and can see a death drake inside. These can go through ordinary rock but not permanent and is therefore trapped. Does this mean no way in??

There is a way in, you need to double-check.

Or, look at lib/edit/vault.txt to find out the name of your vault and let us know.

There is always some access point. Usually the vault is surrounded entirely by permanent rock except for one or two squares which are normal rock. But you may have to do some digging to reach those one or two squares.

Magic Mapping or Enlightenment is useful in these situations.

Note: You cannot teleport or phase door into a vault, so don't bother trying.

EDIT: Sometimes one part of the vault is inaccessible from the other part --- you may have to exit the vault and tunnel around to the other side in search of the entrance.

Help. I'm in a dungeon with a 'superb' room. I've fought my way through hell but the last room is surrounded by permanent rock - no doors! I've tried phase door but to no avail. How do I get in there??

You can't get in there with Phase Door (or Teleport).

There is at least one part of the wall that is granite -- you will need to dig (or stone-to-mud) to go through there.

If you have detect monsters or detect traps (or, even better, magic mapping) you probably can identify the vault from spoilers (or with our help), and figure out the granite piece from there.

Otherwise, just start digging a moat around the permanent rock until you find the granite...
