Anyone else have this problem?

It depends, I guess. I often found lots of comparatively valuable loot even really early on, so I haven't noticed much difference that way. But not spending all the WoR money is definitely helping. -
Yep, I usually do. But I feel that the amount of money lying around is a little TOO generous.Leave a comment:

Thanks to everyone for their help and advice. This game is really, really deep... I am enjoying it immensely; can't wait to rack up my first win. Out of curiosity, does anyone else use the no_sell birth option? I found, with my second character, that I actually had MORE money than I normally would, and was making less trips back to town to boot (part of why I may have more money is less pointless shelling out for WoRs just so I could get home to pawn loot).Leave a comment:

Hehe. Don't worry, you'll get there.
To paraphrase the ancient sage LordDimwit:
If at first you don't succeed, try again. If your second try doesn't work change your tactics, you're obviously doing something wrong!Leave a comment:

In the meantime, I recommend carrying a stack of potions of Heroism. They'll cure fear and give you temporary resistance, as well as healing you a bit and improving your to-hit.Leave a comment:

Cheer up, it might never happen!

Actually, that brings me to another question. In the Warrior's class description on the birth screen it says, "Gains immunity to fear", yet things have no problem whatsoever inflicting me with the "afraid" status. What gives?Leave a comment:

Don't forget the Golden Rule of Angband*, you don't have to fight anything you don't want to, with plentiful teleport (phase door, teleport, teleport level, teleport away), monster detection and other escapes/life saving consumables.
*No clue if this is the ACTUAL golden rule, but it's pretty important!Leave a comment:

Alas, no, temporary speed cannot be stacked. I think that potions of Speed will stack with the effect from mushrooms of Terror, but the terror effect makes them somewhat less useful for fighting.
Though one thing to consider would be drinking potions of Heroism and reading scrolls of Bless. They have a minor effect, but it can still be helpful. And you should be carrying Heroism anyway since it gives temporary resistance to fear (and cures any fear -- but not terror -- you have).Leave a comment:

I am actually not slowed, though I haven't bothered checking THEIR speed. Maybe popping a potion of speed is in order. Which brings up another question... can you guzzle multiples for stacked speed? You know, a temporary, "Screw you, you don't even get a single turn relative to my sickening swiftness" kind of move?Leave a comment:
