Did anyone else get this working? I opened up font-win.prf and deleted all text within, and it had no effect.
I also tried deleting the file, no effect.
It's night time, silly!
Looking at your screenshot, you can see the town walls and floors prefectly... when they are lightened. Just equip your starting torch!
the possibility to get almost unlimited offense and survivability is there
Once I get past the Qt5 porting business (which hopefully will be picking up again soonish), Alchemists will be removed permanently from my fork of ToME 2. Seldom has a more broken character class been "designed". Not only are they unbalanced, but they get their own special items which no other class can use! (TMJ ftw?)
Assuming this competition is scored by turns like most competitions, I doubt most players will have the time to do the grinding needed to make supremely overpowered artifacts. Don't you need special components for each +1 you want to add for each pval?
This. While the possibility to get almost unlimited offense and survivability is there, the question is how much time (how many turns) do you want to invest.
I told Pav to sort by winner first, experience next. I guess we could change that but I thought this would be easiest for Pav, tbh, since this is a new ladder for comps and the base ladder already sorts that way.

Heh, if this doesn't slake your thirst for Numbers Madness debo---you should totally check out Portralis, at least somewhere right before it collapsed under the weight of them and the slow and stalled rewrite began. I think it literally holds the title of the only project with *BAND heritage to wind up going off the deep end to that degree...possibly in all of Roguelikedom outright.
It did have some crazy/cool stuff going on though, really hope the rewrite progresses again someday. :/
There are many of us here who have heard rumors about how over-the-top ToME is. This gives those people motivation to actually try it out for themselves
Old-timers who already know enough about the game to reliably break it will probably not find this so entertaining.
I am mostly just interested in seeing how big All The Numbers get.
a) The Slaughter Axe called 'Choppah' (12d10) (+22,+19)(200%) (+10 to speed)
It provides light (radius 3) forever. It increases your wisdom, stealth, searching,
infravision, speed, attack speed and luck by 10. It increases your hit points
by 200%. It does extra damage from acid, electricity, fire and frost. It poisons
your foes. It drains life from your foes. It is very sharp and can cut your foes.
It is very sharp and can make your foes bleed. It is a great bane of dragons.
It fights against evil with holy fury. It is especially deadly against natural creatures.
It makes you invisible. It allows you to see invisible monsters. It allows you to
sense the presence of good beings. It has been blessed by the gods. It cannot
be harmed by acid, cold, lightning or fire.
You made it yourself.
n) The Metal Lamellar Armour called 'Kevlar' (+26,+33) [23,+12](220%) (+11 attacks)
It increases your searching, attack speed and ability to score critical hits by 11.
It increases your hit points by 220%. It makes you invisible. It sustains your
strength, intelligence, wisdom, dexterity, constitution and charisma. It provides
immunity to acid, electricity, fire and cold. It provides immunity to paralysis. It
makes you completely fearless. It provides resistance to life draining, poison,
light, dark, blindness, confusion, sound, shards, nether, nexus, chaos and
disenchantment. It allows you to levitate. It allows you to fly. It allows you to see
invisible monsters. It gives telepathic powers. It speeds your regenerative powers.
It reflects bolts and arrows. It produces a fiery sheath. It cannot be harmed by
acid, cold, lightning or fire.
You made it yourself.
Having said that, you can get around 40 levels from your first kill, if you mess around with friendly wavelords, detonation potions and a handy leviathan/greater kraken. That's not really terribly sporting, though.
If I understand correctly, this happens when you worship Eru (like the comp char):
You can also play alchemists as a munchkin sorceror. Find a mage staff of wizardry, add something cheap like stealth, and then up the pval. The additions to mana and spell power don't cost anything so it is easy to get it up over 100. Manathrust at level 200 takes out just about anything in one turn.
And this one takes the cake!
a Mage Staff of Spell (Exp:0) (1d4) (-2,+10)(13108680%) (+655434)
It can be wielded two-handed. It can be activated for
runespell(Protection, Sphere, 43) every 215 turns and
runespell(Element, Power Surge, 14) every 70 turns if it is being
worn. It increases your spell power by 655434. It increases your mana
capacity by 13108680%. It cannot be harmed by acid, cold, lightning
or fire.
You made it yourself.
This is just plain stupid... what's the point of playing this? Unless I'm missing something...
I made an alchemist in 2.3.5, tried to increase the pval of my staff, but the letter in the alchemy menu was missing. Then I checked my old ladder dump of an alchemist and saw that it was 2.3.4 where I had made the same staff, and it worked there.
I am not sure what exactly goes wrong, but since I have no idea what got changed in 2.3.5 anyway, I wont miss it when playing 2.3.4, and the artifact creation should work.
The competition build is intended to be played as a caster alchemist (doesnt have to, but it should be the most efficient way) and it wouldnt do to have people get stuck with their artifact. Hence, better safe than sorry.
Thanks to PosChengband and Sil, I feel like I forgot how to play ToME. I'll give Compo 157 a shot when I get to it.
By the way, the last official darkgod version of ToME2 is 2.3.5...is compo 157 specific to 2.3.4 only? Or is 2.3.5 fine no problem?
Estie said something about artifact-something-or-other for alchemists not working in 2.3.4, so I'm not sure it'll work for this one. You're welcome to give it a shot though
