    And one more:
    Balance dragon scale mail of speed <+5>

    Normally I'd give it no chance, but I have found almost no speed items this game, except many, many boots. Best ring is only +8.

    Code:
    i) a Large Metal Shield of Preservation [12,+25] {rPois}
    Dropped by a black ooze at 2600 feet. (level 56)
    Not unusual per se, but easily the best ooze drop I have ever seen; and rDis+rPois is a particularly valuable combo for warrior. (And no I wasn't farming.) Havent removed it all the way to DL 98.

    c) a Ring of Speed <+7>

    +7 speed.

    On my mage that I'll most likely die with in 2 levels lol. 2-9 LF absolutely insane

    I always play with randarts, and had a few nice pieces of armor with speed bonuses etc. even in this game but this combo of more than 100 AC and nearly all resistances from one piece of equipment allowed me to choose everything else rather freely. I haven't actually found PDSM in years and never an artifact.

    Anyway, thanks partially to that armor, managed to kill Morgoth with dunadan paladin. Second 4.2 win after HE mage.

    @Ugramoth--
    Yep, PDSM (Dwarven) is the one most powerful ego item in the game. The best ego shooters may have an edge in the margins, but they are not so obviously the best in their class-- even better than top artifacts.

    ^ had the same except that it was +2 STR, with +2 Blows instead of +2 CON
    Randarts are a thing. You should try them.

    .. heck, i've had PDSMs artifacts with +5 to all stats, +14 Spd, A: MBan. Go look up the "this week i didn't find" thread.

    I challenge anyone to show me an artifact armor that's better than this:

    Power Dragon Scale Mail (Dwarven) (-3) [60+46] <+2, +4>:
    Found lying on the floor in a vault at 4900 feet (level 98)

    +2 strength
    +2 constitution
    +4 infravision

    Provides resistance to acid, lightning, fire, cold, poison, light, dark, sound, shards, chaos, disenchantment.
    Provides protection from confusion.
    Prevents paralysis.

    When aimed, it breathes a cone of magical energy with width 20 degrees, dealing 300 damage at the source.
    Takes 120 turns to recharge at your current speed.
    Your chance of success is 80.2%

    My dwarf priest just found Healing and Sanctuary on DL6. Immediately afterward Wormtongue showed up and dropped Full Plate Armor of Resistance +8. (Sadly, I'm too weak to wear it yet.) Pretty sweet for that early in the game, though.

    It's amazing how much difference a find like this makes in the early game, or even midgame, unless you are playing full-caster. ESP or big damage or both makes a huge difference in survival. In the late game, no one item is likely to make such a difference in player power.

    So my lvl 16 hobbit rogue was bumbling about on dlvl 23 when a purple \ showed up on item detection. I cant wield it - merely lifting it. After heaving it towards a wolf this is what shows:

    a) a Mace of Disruption (5d8) (+4,+9) {??}
    Found lying on the floor of a special room at 1150 feet (level 23)

    You do not know the full extent of this item's powers.
    Branded with lightning.

    Combat info:
    You are too weak to use this weapon.
    1.0 blow/round.
    With +1 STR and +0 DEX you would get 1.6 blows
    Average damage/round: 91.9 vs. creatures not resistant to
    lightning, and 39.2 vs. others.

    The "special room" was X-shaped with 2 staircases on top and bottom respectively. Good thing I found a stack of 2 str potions earlier, so I only need 1 more point.

    Best store purchase in a while. (It cost nearly my entire stash of gold at the time) I guessed it had ESP because of the 100000 price tag.
    Code:
    h) an Elven Cloak of the Magi [6,+11] <+2,+4,+1>
    You bought it in a store

    +2 intelligence
    +4 stealth
    +1 speed
    cannot be harmed by acid or fire.
    sustains intelligence.
    grants telepathy.
