This is an easier version of Scatha's "no magic" challenge. The only difference is that here I allow both Flaming Arrows and Inner Light. These two skills each make a tremendous difference in the game, each in their own way. Don't get me wrong; this version of the challenge is still plenty hard. But I think it only requires that you be *somewhat* crazy to attempt it, rather than *completely* crazy.
The idea of this character was to mostly rely on (possibly Flaming) arrows for the high defense monsters, and to use a +1 Longsword plus high Evasion for things like cat warriors and werewolves. And to mostly run away from high defense monsters that resist fire. This worked out pretty well for the most part. I was surprised at how little Melee+Archery investment I was able to get away with. Certainly taking all three of the Dex points helped.
Digging out even one silmaril was hard. I didn't find a 5d3 mattock like last time, and I needed half-a-dozen attempts to prise one out. And I count myself lucky it took so few attempts. I tried killing Morgoth during the ascent, but it was completely hopeless. I never took off even one star.
