Thanks for all the help guys. I first played Angband back in '94 and I never managed to win. I started up again last year and won once (but via reloading against Morgoth) and this is my first real win.

Time to pick the next character...

    500. Big four = shards, disenchantment, chaos and sound do 500 (law+chaos = balance dragon combo), Nether does 550. Rest I think are either 400 if you can get resist or 200 if you can't.

Chaos prevents hallucination, and I think mind blast can cause that if you don't have perfect saving throw.

    Congrats!

And Disenchantment does do damage; IIRC the damage cap for it is 400. But you're not likely to face it much; it's a pretty rare element. If you don't care about the side-effect (and mages generally don't), then it's not really worth worrying about.

And I got him! Using over 20+ charges from wands of annihilation, 40+ charges from wands of teleport others, 20+ healing potions, 20+ mana potions.

I got him. And I never died! (my only other time killing Morgoth was by reloading when he killed me).

I did this one the right way!

Good 'ole little Rungie... the mage who ran away...

My big concern is that I haven't killed very many of the powerful uniques and I'm going to get overrun.

    Well, here's goes!

    Sauron is dead! :-)

I'm doing much, much better than I thought I would. Now I have to try and figure out how to kill Morgoth. I'm thinking much like I did with Sauron, but bring all my potions.

Of course their summons are different stories, but again, you're a mage; if Banishment and Teleport Other won't do there's always Word of Destruction.
Disenchantment doesn't do damage? That's nice to know.

Yay!!!!! Finally found it on level 96!

Now to level up a bit more (and hope for some chaos and disenchantment gear) before going after the big guy...

Ah wouldn't you know... a Kelek's finally shows up in an undead pit on level 85 and I just used my last mass banish scroll the previous level... *sigh*

The fates are cruel in Angband....

I'm doing ok, but I'm missing the last book, so I don't have access to the really good spells yet. I keep looking...

Yeah, it's a +2 in both shots and might (and +5 dex).
