=== Character Description === Once you started your quest to defeat Morgoth you may want to take a closer look at your character to gain certain information about it. Three character descriptions are available in Angband: player compact A very compact set of information, always visible in the main window. No special command is required to activate this information screen. player basic A detailed information screen about your character with the basic information required. This information screen is available via the 'C' command. player extra An information screen giving an overview about what benefits and/or mali your character gains from the different equipment it uses. Once you invoked the 'player basic' information screen via 'C' command you can progress to this information using the 'h' command. All three character descriptions can be used in subwindows. For more information on this topic see the options help file. Furthermore there is a statusline at the bottom of the main window which is not displayable in a subwindow. The effects shown in the statusline mostly correspondent to some damage types / protections further discussed under the player extra description mode (not all tho, like 'Study(1)'). === Compact Description === The compact description contains a number of lines, from the top to the bottom: 1st line race 2nd line title 3rd line class LEVEL character level (in distinction to the dungeon level) NXT required experience points until the next character level AU gold coins 7th line symbols for filled equipment slots STR strength INT intelligence WIS wisdom DEX dexterity CON constitution CHA charisma The stats range from 3 to 18 and further from 18/10 to 18/100 and even further to 18/210 and 18/*** (maximum). An ! indicates the stat has reached its natural maximum and can only be boosted further towards 18/*** with equipment. Cur AC current armor-class (the higher the better) HP current hit points / maximum hit points SP current spell points / maximum spell points The SP line is only available if the char has 1 or more SP. [**------] target life bar (aproximately 10% life left for each *) 50' (L1) dungeon level in feet and level (or 'town' for town level) === Basic Description === The basic description is available with the 'C' command. It consists of seven blocks. Block 1 to 3 in the top area, block 4 to 6 in the middle area and block 7 at the bottom of the screen. Block 1 Name to SP This should be self-explanatory (HP and SP see compact mode). Block 2 Age to Maximize This should be almost self-explanatory, except for the last line. Maximize: The birth option of how to handle stat maximum. Block 3 Strength to Charisma This block shows the different modifiers for the six stats (see birth or compact mode for more information on stats). Self: birth value RB: race bonus CB: class bonus EB: equipment bonus Best: self plus all modifiers (=current maximum, which can still be below the total maximum of 18/***) Cur: if the stat is not at it's current maximum (because it got drained) then the last row shows the current stat value Block 4 Level to Gold Level: character level Cur Exp: current experience points (can be lower than maximum when drained / time attacked) Max Exp: maximum experience points Adv Exp: required experience points to advance character level (absolute number, compact mode shows AdvExp-CurExp) MaxDepth: the deepest depth (dungeon level) this character has visited GameTurns: number of game turns Standard: number of standard turns (aprox. GameTurns DIV 10) Resting: number of turns the character has rested Gold: gold coins Game turns are simulation steps, during which each entity in the game is allocated energy. Standard turns are player actions, which happen whenever the player has at least 100 energy. At normal speed, there are 10 game turns to each standard turn. Block 5 Armor to Burden The information shown in this block relies on identified equipment and therefore can be not accurate if the character uses unidentified equipment. Armor: armor class [normal AC, + bonus AC] Fight: basic hit and damage bonus (stats) Melee: melee hit and damage bonus (stats plus equipment) Shoot: shoot hit and damage bonus (relevant stats plus relevant equipment) Blows: number of attacks with the equipped weapon (depends on strength, dexterity, equipment and class) Shots: number of attacks with the equipped bow (depends on equipment and class) Infra: the range of infravision, if available Speed: character speed (0=normal) Burden: total weight of inventory and equipped items Block 6 Saving Throw to Searching This block shows the skill values of the character. Sa. Throw: Sometimes a check is made before negative effects from attacks / spells aimed at the player take place. It is called saving throw and shows the probability of evading the negative effect in percent. Stealth, the skill value represented by a descriptive text Fighting, (from lowest to highest: bad, fair, superb, Shooting: excellent, heroic, legendary) Disarming: probability of disarming traps or locks in percent Magic Dev.: Skill value for using wands, staves or rods. If the skill is greater than the difficulty level of the magic device the damage is increased by (skill level-device level) percent. Perception: search frequency Searching: search probability in percent Block 7 family background A short summary of the characters family background. available Commands: c Change the characters name. This feature is of use, when you started over with the same savefile (to keep monster memory) and forgot to rename the character at it's birth. Or something exiting / uncommon happened and you want to rename the character in 'Lucky Joe' or 'Tulip the Dragonslayer'. If there is a competition in the Angband community and several people start with the same savefile and it is required to distinguish the characters, since the ladder entries are done by character name. f Write the character to file. The file contains basic and extra description, used equipment, inventory (including home), character history and birth options setting. This can be used to post characters to the ladder and/or ask in the forum for help/advice, or just generate a file you can look into after the savefile was used for a new character. h Toggle between basic description and extra description mode. ESC resume game === Extra Description === The extra description is reached by using the 'h' command in the basic description screen. It shows the effect of equipment (as well as your intrinsic abilities) on stats, skills and the characters abilities to handle damage and secondary effects. Temporary effects are not shown, those are visible in the status line (and to some extend are those temporary effects cumulative with the effects from equipment). The extra description has a similar style as the basic description. Three blocks of information at the top and four blocks of information at the bottom side of the screen. Block 1 and 3 of the basic description are unchanged, except the additional character level information in Block 1. The new block 2 shows effects on stats. Block 4 to 7 shows effects on skills, damage resistance and additional abilities (i.e. boost regeneration). Above and below those blocks are the chars a to l and the @ char. Those rows represent the characters equipment slots a to l, while @ stands for intrinsic powers coming from race or class. Below the bottom row the symbols for used equipment slots are used again (see compact mode). Block 2 stat modifier In the middle section of the top half of the screen the stat modifiers are presented. Each used equipment slot will result in a row of chars through all lines from STR to CHA. Their meaning: '.' no effect light green colored = modifies stat by +nr dark green colored = modifies stat by +nr and sustains it 's' dark green colored = the stat is sustained (drain protected) The blocks 4 to 7 show differnt resistances and abilities per line. It works like block 2 in that way, that the rows are dependant on the equipment slots, while the line correspondends to a certain resistance or ability. Their meaning is: '.' No effect '+' The equipment gives the corresponding power (while light is a cumulative power, most powers are not cumulative). Resistance versus a damage tpye will usually reduce the damage taken and furthermore protect from a possible secondary effect of that certain damage type). '*' The equipment gives immunity versus the corresponding damage type. The character won't take any damage from this damage type and is protected completely versus possible secondary effects. The following list explains the used abreviations and delivers additional information about (secondary) effects. rAcid resistance to acid (reduce AC from equipped item) rElec resistance to electricity (destruct item from inventory) rFire resistance to fire (burn item from inventory, i.e. books) rCold resistance to cold (shatter potion from inventory) rPois resistance to poison (poison as temporary effect) rLite resistance to light (blindness) rDark resistance to darkness (blindness) Sound resistance to sound (stun) Shard resistance to shard (stun) Nexus resistance to nexus (tel./tel.-to/tel.-level, swap stats) Nethr resistance to nether (lose experience) Chaos resistance to chaos (hallucination, confusion, lose exp.) Disen resistance to disenchantment (reduce hit/dam boni from EQ) Feath feather falling pFear protection from fear (prevents melee attacks) pBlnd protection from blindness (prevents actions, i.e. casting) pConf protection from confusion (prevents actions, i.e. casting) pStun protection from stun (prevents movement, reduce abilities) Light modifies light radius (cumulative) Regen boosted regeneration ESP Extra Sensory Perception (=telepathy) Invis see invisible creatures FrAct Free Action (=protection paralysation, prevents anything) HLife hold Life (reduce xp drain effects) Stea. modifies skill stealth (cumulative) Sear. modifies skill searching probability (cumulative) Infra modifies infravision (cumulative) Tunn. modifies tunneling (cumulative) Speed modifies speed (cumulative) Blows modifies number of blows with melee weapon Shots modifies number of shots with ranged weapon Might modifies the power level of items (ranged dam multiplier) S.Dig slow disgestion, reduces required food ImpHP impair hit point regeneration Fear curse of panic (reduced abilities, i.e. ring of escaping) Aggrv curse of aggravating nearby monsters The available commands are identically to the basic description screen.
