Introducing Tassadar, noble Templar and Hero of the Protoss.

First iteration died. I didn't activate hp warnings, and failed to see the low hp till it was too late.

Detect traps prerequires a spell called benediction that i was unable to locate yet. This also has the positve side effect that the fear and sleep spells in the second book are unavailable, so I won't waste my spellpoints on those.

I used the Cheetah transformation most of the time, and it looked to be a good choice so far.

I wonder why you didn't dive deeper in Bree (the game says the dungeon is 3 levels deep). It would also open some more dungeons to you. Uniques are tasty...

I see your Amulet of Charima rusted and lost all its pluses? At least it sustains CHR, doesn't it?

I've corrected the Bree home name overwriting stat names. There seem to be equippy chars displayed in the tables at the bottom as strange characters.

"It has been blasted by powerful magic. " seems erroneous, too. Is it WIP5a or WIP5 or SVN?

On 9.6.2007 14:08 Matthias wrote:
Official release WIP5a it is. The blasted might be connected to the fact that it is a item you get when shape changing that can't be taken off. Oh wait you might be talking about the potions.. yeah that's defenitly wrong too.

I think the strange chars at the buttom are a result of me using old tile graphic mode.

The CHR amu was this way to start with. I assume it is supposed to be this way, to just give susCHR.

I usually start with killing both uniques at farmer maggot's and bree, but it also requires a bit of equipment collecting, like a wand of wonder or a shooter with mushroom arrows, and I though i could get those easier by diving a bit into barrow downs first. Would likely have killed the Bree one after this dive..

Now that you mention it, my effortless attempt at the competition maia some month ago killed both of those uniques using the lion shapeshift without too many problems.
Now that... well... i... totally failed to remember i actually could shapeshift until like 300" down in barrowdowns.

I've fixed the problem with Benediction not being available already - hadn't realised that I failed to roll this up in WIP5a.

All priests start with Charisma +0 - guess I could make this Charisma plus 1.

The {broken} mushrooms etc are a known bug. Detect curse senses these incorrectly.

On 9.6.2007 22:52 Matthias wrote:
Here we go, iteration 2. Went with Lion this time. Started with killing the agent, and got a nice +6 charisma body armor. That together with the +4 charisma from the lion means 2% fail on all spells available.

I was able to learn benediction from the first music book. Also noticed that sanctuary not just sleeps enemies, but also gives a d4+4 turn shield spell. Nice!

Andrew: I wish there was a way to attack without charging. Or a way to cancel the charge without losing a turn.

I did read about your this "own ball spells hurts", and ... yeah they do. Lost 70 hp and several scrolls when I fireballed that ferry two steps away...

Tassadar is now sitting on 19, likely not ready to kill the unique ahead.

On 9.6.2007 23:39 andrewdoull wrote:
The 'you-must-charge' is deliberate. e.g. daggers and other light weapons are worse off for the first blow. Or do you find the message distracting?

BTW: If you want to get Benediction from the priest book, add a line 'A:91:0:10' directly under the N:134:Benediction line in lib\edit\spell.txt.

Next work in progress will have monster summoning spells implemented as per your request.

On 10.6.2007 00:14 Matthias wrote:
The message is fine. My comments on charging are too long for this screen, I'm moving them to the forum.

I requested a change in monster summoning spells? Are you talking about my complain of them summoning too strong too much out of sight? If so I defenitly welcome it :)

I know that summoning out of sight has issues: see http:roguelikedeveloper.blogspot.com for a fuller discussion of the issues.

My honorable Protoss is back from his two day vacation at Andrew's "save my savefile" hospital. Thanks again! I promise to not abuse dungeon shop rooms anymore, but I'll keep the latern :) I was on my way to the W of Barrowdowns when the shop incident happened, so I finished that. No problem with the 80 damage flame strike. Love that spell.. He dropped some money making excellents including a stack of 11 daggers of bloodlust, worth 1700 each.

Back to surface, on to buckland. I can't remember if this is the way I always use, or the way I always fail to use... We'll see that soon enough.

Seems like Andrew told the RNG about my complain about charging, because the Marketplace had a SoS (+0,+0) for an afordable 12000gold. See weapon slot a) for how it looked after I used the items from the W to enchant it via shop service. 250 damage if the charge hits... I'll happily give up on the lion for that :)

Size as in the stat? The starting one, or will the multi increase when I raise size? Oh and of course thing will get a brand as soon as I can afford it. Still not sure if I will go for dual brand
3*acidrune + brand, or for res basic + slay holy with 5 shields.
I think i'll take the first one, as i will likely never see 5 shield runes anyway, or... not before deep enough to find better weapons anyway. And I already have my first Acid rune :)

On 13.6.2007 02:20 Matthias wrote:
One more Acid rune to go :)
Only path left to go is Weathertop. I almost payed with my life for my first visit there. 300 damage from a cold bolt, down to 14 hp. *scary*
Got lucky with a random altar and learned resistance, that should help against the rider.

On 13.6.2007 09:33 andrewdoull wrote:
Nice. You could try researching further spells off of the prayer beads if you need to now. And yes, your size stat determines your maximum charge bonus. Be careful about increasing it much above your strength however.

Isn't it weight, to be more precise? I don't remember...

Hmmm Weathertop is still seriously bugged. In short: No monsters. Same seems to be true for all the other dungeons that I cleaned already. But for weathertop it was true all the time from the start.

Andrew: I replyed in more detal to a closed bug on berlios... Do you get a notice when something happens with those closed ones?

Well, the rider at weathertop is dead, no blinding used this time. Instead I used the orb and flamestrike, together with phase, tele away and finished with a potion of detonation. Also needed all of my 6 concentration scrolls.

One new way to go, with no dungeon but another rider. So what to do next? I guess the only thing I can do is collect free items at the high levels of weathertop.

PS: If the no monster bug is fixed in svn already, I'll happily follow the compiling howto. It defenitly feels bad to collect freebies..

I'd also suggest a level40 dungeon instead of no dungeon at ford Rivendell, as for now, it is two riders directly after each other...

I recalled to Weathertop 4 or 5 times clearing 10-15 levels each time. As mentioned, no monsters, only items on floor. Most of those were devices or scrolls/potions as expected so equipment hasn't really changed. Most noticeable, my new helm of seeing, that allows Tassadar to wield the new ring of constition. I also found an amu of Wisdom +3 that got lost because of a bug. Got it replaced by a +2 one.
Last level had a bag of scying and the book of the dead, and I took that as a sign from the gods to stop collecting stuff now.

For offence I have *Dispel undead* in the new book that does 124 damage for 7 mana, as well as 8 potions of detonation. Might give him a whack with my acid branded SoS too.

For defence, apart from the lack of res base, I also couldn't find any flasks of light, so for blinding I only have 4 rods and a wand of light. So the guardian will not be blinded all the time.

We'll see how it goes. I don't really know what he can throw at me as Curry didn't give him a chance to use spells, but I guess he does have an ugly nether attack or something that can take me out with an unlucky roll. No idea really.

This whole thing feels kind of like fighting morgy for the first time again. I might be overprepared, or I might just die. Good job Andrew :)

Plus your SOS probably ruins your spellcasting --- doesn't it?

Aparently I was expecting too much from the rider, or I was just lucky. He must have around 2000 hp and made a total of three attack, two curses and one create darkness. Once he was at half hp, he started getting scared, what didn't really help him out in the open against my ranged attacks :)

Dropped nothing including an Armor of AcidImmunity, and I went on to Rivendell where I finally decided to drop my +8 charisma Armor for a resBase one. Failrate is now 4%

Went to Isengard... No Monsters. Went to Caradras... No Monsters. Went to Gates of Moria.. Monster!! Finally. After my first trip there, I accidently went to Caradras again, and noticed there were monster too now. Still no monsters in Isengard. Moria has way too much water, so I'll take the chasms of Caradras for now.

Next dive will be a Xmas party thanks to my just-found stack of 7 scrolls of aquirement.

The Sos does increase fail rate, decrease mana and reduced toHit ratio. But only if I am not blessed. And.. yeah... well.. priests are casting bless all the time anyway aren't they :)
Yet, I am considering to bless the weapon instead of giving it a second brand, as the blessing spell seem to like to run out at bad moments from time to time.
