Having a blast with this one. Haven't played many unarmed specialists. A couple of monks in Z+ and had a real good time with a Ninja in Heng/Entro. This fella is a lot less subtle though. One hulking Stone Troll Happy Slapping his way through Middle Earth...............

He doesn't punch, he slaps. He doesn't flying kick on a charge, he toe punts. Great stuff :0)

As usual in Un, I have been sightseeing, I have the map to the Ruins of Angmar so could hop over and start the end dungeon anytime I want but I'm a sucker for seeing as much as possible and battering as many things as possible. Lots of places to see and guardians to boot into oblivion.

Have been visiting a few haunts, fighting my way to a level away from where the guardians/bosses lair and now have started to visit each in turn and lay down the smack. Poor King Theoden, already out of his mind, was soundly beaten in his bedroom by a burly interloper. King of the Elves in Mirkwood also given a sound kicking as his vassals flailed uselessly from all around me. The Orcs of Moria sent home licking their wounds while I made an amusing childs toy from Azog's head.

Think I'll have a crack at Beorn next and then head up to the top of Isengard to discuss matters with Melnedor the Swift who I haven't had the pleasure of meeting before. Then into the woods to tie Radagast to a tree and kick him until he stops crying.

Not having to worry about weapons is very liberating at the moment. I'm sure I will run into great difficulties later but right now seems so much easier running around slapping anything that moves!!

Cool! It'll be interesting to watch your character and see the differences between a pure martial artist as opposed to a barehanded bard.

On 1.7.2011 22:23 Philip wrote:
For some reason when I tried to copy off of your bard the flying kick attacks did no damage and I swear the game acted as if I didn't have the specialty. It makes the game slightly annoying, as you can't do a fun specialty and kill your fellow trolls.

On 2.7.2011 06:39 HallucinationMushroom wrote:
Hmm, that's weird. My martial arts never did much damage but in the very early game I could tell the difference between a flying kick and a regular attack... usually the difference of a star. By the time I started finding the lesser uniques, like Mim and family, nothing seemed to do much damage. Apologies if you already know this or if I'm misreading, but Trolls are considered hard-to-reach, and you're going to need to stand on something that gives you a height advantage even if you are playing a stone troll yourself. If you don't you still occasionally hit, but not nearly as often and it probably affects charging too. You might be flying kicking them successfully, with only the game to say, you cannot reach, if that is possible.

What I'm really hoping to see is if Gump will get many more attacks a round, and better attacks as he goes. My martial arts was stuck at 5 and that was a woefully inadequate trade-off for losing 2 slots to be a viable attack option, plus no obvious stunning or confusing perks like in FA.

On 2.7.2011 07:56 Philip wrote:
Yeah, but I noticed that my flying kicks did NO damage, while my normal fighting stuff did NEARLY no damage. BTW, hack for the first troll(hide in water, he won't do damage, you won't hit as often, but he won't do damage). That was one of the few monsters I could kill. It was very annoying when I finally caught up with someone and then flying kicked them, giving them a free turn.

On 4.7.2011 16:19 Ashkir wrote:
Ok. Still on 5 slaps a round but my charge modifier is now x7 damage and I'm pretty damn accurate with the ol' fisticuffs. Wouldn't mind a bit more damage output though.

Picked up a few artifacts and spent awhile tinkering with equipment, I'm not the best at picking out what's best in what slot for whatever reason, but I've muddled through. Using the Phial more for the +5 tunnelling than anything else. Was lugging round an Orcish Pick, now have freed up an inventory slot, carrying less weight for speed concerns and just the idea of the big lunk tearing through solid rock with his bare hands is quite appealing.

Beorn ............... spanked. Meneldor and his feathered friends resoundingly pummelled. Ulbundi ran into somebody bigger than him ........ me!! Poor Radagast barely woke from his pleasant nap in the woods before being booted up a tree. Randomly ran over a few other uniques. Had forgotten to visit Midgewater Marshes and apparently trod on Nar while I was there, found him on the bottom of my shoe.

Most intense fighting so far taken place in Isengard where the tiny levels and design forces everything on you at once pretty much. Some very close calls but due to the floor layouts a simple Phase Door scroll gives you a much needed breather or a chance to pop near some stairs.

Don't want to piss Smaug off yet, kinda hoping for some fire immunity armour soonish before heading into the Lonely Mountain, so, next up, a pitched battle at the Siege of Hornburg is beckoning.

*cracks his knuckles and grins evilly at the Uruks*

On 5.7.2011 02:17 andrewdoull wrote:
Philip: Not sure why that is the case. The flying kick should have a damage multiplier equal to your charge multiplier, which for unarmed attacks is based on your weight, and kicking does a base damage dependent on your footwear. Charging multiplier affects the to-damage bonus as well as base damage to remain competitive with multiple blows.

On 15.7.2011 14:17 Ashkir wrote:
In the violent scenes of utter mayhem at the Siege of Hornburg, I never even saw Mauhur go down in a fierce tussle on the banks of a lake, surrounded by angry Trolls. I spent quite awhile hunting round for him, eager to deal with the enemy leader personally before tripping over what I at first believed to be a submerged log but what ended up being poor battered Mauhur looking very sorry for himself indeed!!

Used up most of my healing and a lot of haste/speed convincing the Black Riders at Bree, Weathertop and the Ford at Rivendell that they had become lost and didn't want to be hanging around the area anymore scaring wildlife and children.

Drops from bosses/uniques have been a bit crap to say the least. Not exactly dripping great gear but what good stuff I have found is mostly randoom loot picked up off the floor while exploring various unfriendly locales. C'mon guys, SHOW ME THE GOOD STUFF!!!!

Still no Immunity armour of any sort to speak of, was hoping to score some before visiting Smaug, but the lure of the Lonely Mountain is beginning to get too much .......... I may hang around the lower passageways beneath Redhorn Pass for a little while longer to restock and try my luck but I think it's time to pay those overgrown Lizards a visit.........

I wish I had ringside seats for the Smaug showdown. Here's hoping you find some execute dragon boots for some sort of crippling toe attack.
